The referees and the authorities have been making a rod for their own backs for years. They've had the power to instill the kind of respect that Rugby officials take for granted but have always shied away from it.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Last Saturday was a prime example.
Referee - What did you say ? 18 stone rugby player - Nothing sir.
End of conversation.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

If referees enforced the rules already in place for dissent and foul language then most of it wouldn't happen, but if they did people would complain about red cards "ruining games" and the powers that be wouldn't back them up.
It would take a month or two of pain. A month or two of multiple dismissals per match, just long enough for it to sink in even with footballers that the abuse either stops or their game does.

Why though, always baffled me.

Pass.
I mean, this is one of the more famous examples. You can't tell me that most of if not all of the players here broached the "foul and abusive language" rule, yet from memory there wasn't even a booking. No referee should have to put up with this, but to a certain degree they've brought it on themselves.
Make a few examples, hammer them with fines and suspensions and it will soon stop. The managers themselves will have to do it if it's costing them players for periods of time.

That picture tells a story, it was a classic Fergie thing, bully referees. Fergie would do it himself including demand a ref not be allocated to his team anymore.
In that Picture, Stam and Keane should have seen red and the others yellow, the authorities should then have backed him up and told the Mancs to get into line or face the consequences.
The realiyt was very different. The football authorities are cowards. Scared of players when they should be more concerned about the fans and what is right.
