| Lockdown Ending on 19:26 - Feb 18 by Scotia | People could buy wool and knitting needles on Amazon or ebay. Very few people are actually waiting for small shops to open they're buying on line. Do you really think clothes aren't an essential purchase? Shops have been closed for two months already. If anything this policy is contributing to the death of the High Street its forced everyone to shop online. If a shop is allowed to be open it should be allowed to sell whatever it usually stocks. Closing off parts of it is stupid and dangerous. I really don't think its doing anyone any good. |
Just like allowing pubs to open and not allowing them to sell alcohol.

So the guy in the market that sells records will I am sure be fine to see his shop having to remain closed whilst Asda sells theirs or Dorians will be happy to remain closed whilst Tescos have their engravers open. What about the clothes stall in the Market having to remain closed whilst Sainsburys sell theirs. There are many others who have to close whilst seeing supermarkets sell things they normally would. You can also buy kids clothes on line. Here is a link for you to Marks and Spencers although there will be many other outlets. https://www.marksandspencer.co This is from the man who claimed to support local businesses and landlords. Complete double standards as usual. [Post edited 18 Feb 2021 20:24]

Should Asda only be allowed to sell essential goods at any time then? You can buy records on line, you can get engraving done on line so by that logic should access to Internet shopping be restricted too? Should all large chains be stopped from operating in Wales? I do support local businesses and I will in the future. I can't go for a pint with my mates online and I can't go for a meal with my family online. This is a stupid argument. The fundamental point is significant parts of the store are closed off crowding people in to the part of the store that remains open. For no reason at all because people just buy what they want online and potentially never go back to the small shops on the high street ever again.

Thank you for the apology. Agreed on the lockdown easing from that date. I read an article earlier from the mail Sadiq Khan calling for Boris Johnson to reject calls from tory mps for the swift easing of national rules, I find that poor. It's very easy for anyone to say lock us down for our safety, when it's all hypothetical! Even the ITN news tonight would not commit to saying lockdowns have worked, they chose to say, the lockdowns seemed to have worked. We will see, but I will be cheesed off, if they keep these rules into the summer.

So when pubs reopen you would be happy if say only Wetherspoons were allowed to open as the equivalent to supermarkets and places like your favourite the Westbourne had to close or do think all pubs should be able to sell their beers at the same time irrespective of how big a company is because that is what your suggesting for shops. The big supermarkets should be allowed to sell anything they like but other shops arent allowed to. Hardly a level playing field is it and certainly not supporting small local businesses.

I agree, they tried schools last time. It spread like feck. Maybe try all the other stuff first ? and then schools ? If they rush and get it wrong again, the schools will be closed again before you can say Johnson is a useless wâš“ï¸.

| Lockdown Ending on 06:51 - Feb 19 with 1041 views | Dr_Winston | The whole entire point of vaccinating the most vulnerable first is so the spread of the virus has the least effect on the most at risk. Now almost all have significant protection against Covid a possible rise in cases due to schools reopening is less of a concern. Anyone who has seen at close hand the damage done to an entire generation of kids by schools closing when far more effort should have been made to keep them open should want them back into education asap. | |

No that argument isn't relevant. It is akin to pubs not being allowed to sell food because restaurants and cafes do and subsequently restaurants not being allowed to hold an alcohol licence. See its stupid isn't it?

It isnt relevant because it doesnt suit your selfish needs to be able to get what you want in supermarkets. It is the same principle. Allowing big multi national companies to sell things that small local traders are being prevented from doing. It isnt right. There needs to be a level playing field for all. The supermarkets could quite easily remove the stock of non essential items if they wished to and store them in their warehouses.

"Allowing big multi national companies to sell things that small local traders are being prevented from doing. It isnt right" But that's precisely what the closure of non-essential stores does, no matter what Tesco are allowed to sell. Amazon's stock price hasn't rocketed during the pandemic by accident.

I can satisfy my selfish, tory, right wing needs on the internet (that was mainly for exhmrc, I'm neither of those things) It's not a political issue it is a practical one, this rule makes life even more difficult and dangerous for everyone for absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Do you really think stopping a child buying a toy in Tesco over Xmas is helping a small, independent toy store which can't open until April? Would those parents wait unitl April or buy online from an even bigger multinational? My situation at the moment is as follows. We couldn't buy my daughters clothes in Asda yesterday. I ordered twice as many from Next online last night to allow for sizing. I'll be collecting them today and then taking half of them back. That one essential journey to a shrunken supermarket has now turned in to an additional two non essential journeys. For no benefit to a closed small, independent, local childrens clothes shop because it doesn't exist. Even if it did, my daughter needs clothes now. This entire scenario makes no sense.

It seems everything you say or do is part of your selfish thoughts. You spend loads of money going to a restaurant in Bristol when you could have gone for a meal in Swansea. You decide to take a vaccination you yourself said you werent entitled to. You complained about the stay local rule because it prevented you from going fishing. You were going to your elderly parents house because they looked after your kids so putting them at risk. You are now complaining that you cant get items you want and want supermarkets to be allowed to sell items others cant. You say you are not a Tory but all your statements show otherwise. The putting self first before others which is the Johnson way as evidenced by the ridiculous Cummings fiasco where he put himself above the rules he was responsible for bringing in. Do as I say not as I do.

Talk to some child health experts, particularly those involved with mental health. I have.

Kids in Finland don't start school until they are 7, they also do far less hours than our kids do and have very little homework. They seem to manage without too many mental health problems.

They have , and not for the better , now they'll have to readapt , a disruption to a child's structure & education of this length of time has and will continue to cause harm to their educational and mental well being .

Stick to addressing the points I raise before getting personal. You obviously can't because there is no sensible way to address them. The policy is stupid and introduced by an idiot. But to answer your questions. It was Brighton and not Bristol. The inside of restaurants were closed in Wales at that time. I have booked the Beach House Oxwich for a birthday in May. If that is closed but similar open in England I'll do the same again. Does that make me a Tory? I got the vaccine because I was entitled to it. Apparently 30% of carers have refused it - does it make me a Tory for turning up to an appointment that could otherwise have gone to waste? It was surfing and not fishing. I'd do the same again in the same circumstances, the stay local rule was in place for far too long, especially in this area. As Prof Woolhouse said this week no Covid outbreaks have been associated with a trip to the beach, anywhere in the world. I have no choice but rely on my parents for childcare I have to work, as does my wife. To ensure they are safe they are in my support bubble and I completely eliminate contact with everyone else, we're basically an extended household. I'm confident they are fine. I also had the vaccine as did my wife. They have now too. I can get any item I want, just not immediately or without putting myself and others at increased risk. Anyone can sell anything online. The rule is stupid. I'm not a Tory but I will not blindly follow whatever nonsense Drakeford dreams up. There is a considerable difference. I'd suggest you do the same.

Which has no relevance to the massive increase in teenagers reported as self harming or having suicidal thoughts.

We can't keep everyone happy. kids, teens, old ppl, vulnerable ppl, health workers, police teachers, shop assistants, how to we keep them all safe and happy at the same time? If it means a few kids are unhappy , but it protects others from death, then so be it.
