Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has suggested that he wants to “kick on” and he is willing to leave the club to do that.
Woodman started his career with Crystal Palace before he signed for Newcastle in 2013. He is yet to make a senior appearance for the Magpies.
The 23-year-old has previously had loan spells with the likes of Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.
Woodman is enjoying a breakthrough spell with Championship outfit Swansea City. He is currently in his second year with the Swans and in that time he has totted up 67 appearances.
Over the years the ‘keeper has been capped at every youth level for England from U-16s to the U-21s. He was part of the side that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017.
Speaking with The Athletic, Woodman insisted that he wants to “experience so much more” in his career:
“As happy as I am to have played those games, deep down, I want more. I see (Karl) Darlow doing really well now and I’ve watched Martin (Dubravka), Tim Krul, Steve Harper; all these goalies have played so many games.
“I think to myself, ‘I’d love to do that, to go out and play in front of 52,000 for such a massive club and rack up the games’.
“I look back and appreciate playing for such a big club but I also think, ‘Come on, I want to experience so much more and kick on’. It makes me super excited for what’s to come.” |  |

Almost certainly no. Newcastle are hoping Swansea get promoted then they will quote silly money to buy him £7m perhaps. Swansea will persue other options.

I agree, that's why I posed the question.

Think he suffers a bit from the pressure in some games, understandable in a young Keeper, but when we really need to try and hold on to the ball he inevitably kicks it straight into touch, he's young with still lots to learn, be interesting to see if we do keep him, one way or another. |  |

Again with Allen, we didn't sign him because we didn't match or beat Stoke's bid to Liverpool for him, so we didn't get to the stage of discussing personal terms with him. He's repeated that again in recent weeks. To expect him to wait around for us with no guarantee that we'd actually go through with the plan of signing him had he decided to sit his contract out&waste a year of his careee in Liverpools reserves on that basis is very naive of you. What if he'd had a career threatening injury towards the end of his Liverpool contract? What if for some reason the manager at the Swans at the time had decided by the time that they didn't fancy him or would have preferred to spend that wage elsewhere in the squad? Then you're suggesting once he's at Stoke that he could have run down his contract there and then joined us? By which point we'd be in the championship and not willing to pay probably half of what he's on at Stoke!? Come on its complete fantasy mun. The reason he didn't join as unpalatable as it maybe to you to criticise Huw Jenkins is because Jenkins frankly ummed and ahhhed, basically messing Liverpool and the player about. And of course he had a great Euros and Liverpool had more leverage which Huw failed to see coming. | |
