The Mrs loves Alison Moyet - about 6 years ago I was looking for tickets as a birthday present. Found a gig in the Cotswolds and bought tickets, didn't do any research into the venue, other than location. Turned out it was nothing more than a village hall and the gig was a local fundraiser - the smaii stage was about 2ft high. Ms Moyet was backed by an accoustic guitarist and.did about an hour of her hits superbly. The Mrs stood at the front almost face to face with her - a priceless experience
A couple of years later Alison was supporting Tears for Fears in Liverpool and we got tickets again - she, as usual, was great, but Tears for Fears were absolutely brilliant, something I hadn't expected..
As a total contrast, went to a gig in Cardiff, 2008 ish, Joan Jet, Motorhead & Alice Cooper (one of my favourites growing up) he didn't dissapoint, superb, rock theatre [Post edited 25 Jul 8:50]

Seen Alice so many occasions , he got together the Old Guys a few years back whilst performing live and Schools Out was 45 rpm gold vinyl listening to my respect of him as an artist onstage . | | | |

I've been blessed to see the following memorable concerts at such iconic venues:
1. New Riders of the Purple Sage who played an extended version of "Willie and the Hand Jive"; The Grateful Dead - Hollywood Bowl, June 17, 1972 (very last concert performance by founding member, keyboardist, and vocalist, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan); the Dead notorious for long playsets, played 25 songs that evening!
2. The Allman Brothers Band without Duane Allman; Dr. John (known as The Night Tripper); The Mahavishnu Orchestra - Dallas Memorial Auditorium, June 9, 1972; The ABB were performing their "Eat a Peach" tour.
Note: I've seen The Allman Brothers Band 3 times. The first time with Duane Allman and the rest of the original band in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the Univ of Tenn - Chattanooga Maclellan Gymnasium along with opening act, Country Joe McDonald, who famously played at The Woodstock Music Festival in August, 1970 singing his iconic anti-war song, "I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die" rag and opening with his infamous "FISH" Cheer. The 2nd time I saw ABB without Duane Allman due to his untimely deadly motorcycle accident in Macon, Georgia, Oct 1971; and the 3rd time without another founding member and bassist Berry Oakley, who also died in a motorcycle accident in Nov 1972, three blocks from where Duane Allman had died.
3. The Noon to Moon Mega Music Festival featuring The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, & Wet Willie - RFK Stadium, Washington D.C., June 9 & 10, 1973 | | | |

As mentioned earilier The Who at The Vetch , just recently the 50 year anniversary .
Sensational Alex Harvey band on another event would have topped The Who as the headline act onstage .
Hawkwind at the Brangwyn Hall way back in the day was a memory but not my taste then as I was dragged along by a mate .
Queen and Adam Lambert in Brum few years back was the ultimate theatre show with the gimmicks thrown in for effect .
Focus with 100 in the audience last year in my local Arts Centre , a brilliant show again . |
Hoping to catch Focus at the Po ny Art centre in September, The Who concert down the vetch was a great day and Alex Harvey band were on top form.
As for Hawkwind in the Brangwyn hall thoroughly enjoyed the gig,the only album I had of theirs was the release at the time, Levitation and knew the earlier single Silver Machine. What I didn't know at the time was Ginger Baker played drum on the album, don't know if he was in the performance, then bought the album Sonic Attack and didn't buy another.
Did get to and enjoy The Who concert in the new stadium even with the several power outages. | | | |

Wouldn't have been aware of Lemmy in those days all I remember of Hawkwind was someone playing around with I think what was a Moog Synthesiser and the lasers light show and obviously the music. | | | |
