Every year I start a thread on this event, for me ,easily the hardest sporting event bar none. Frankluy,I'm glad to be still around to start such a thread and hope we can all hang around a bit longer to argue, bitch and kockwave. I used to get the dope addled filthy cheat replies but the contributors to this site are ,by and large, different breed.
Im glad Brittany gets a decent spread this year as the Bretons are nuts on the sport and nice people too.
Geraint does have a chance of Yellow but the Ineos team kook very strong. His prepareation has been good .Im a fan of Froome,I admit it. I would love to see him hit the 5 wins but can't see it.He simply got injured at the wrong time and that put paid to his chances of immortality.
Thing is it’s like riding from Wrexham to Swansea every day for three weeks. Stage 11 is 125 miles with two climbs of Ventoux plus another Cat 1 climb. I don’t get the haters.
They follow the headlines Paul. They know the square route of nowt.

Mark Cavendish. The Manx Express
The greatest sprinter the world has ever seen.
So happy for this man,a straight, honest and sometime very awkward guy.
Great finish.
The emotion of that win was amazing. Thought the guy on the solo break was going to make it, but how they swallowed him up in the last 600m was an amazing sight.

Like you I enjoy watching Le Tour as much as any sport. I find both the bunch sprint finishes and the big HC mountain stages the greatest of spectacles.
Special day for Cav for sure. Recognised Fougeres today and no doubt will Laval for the ITT tomorrow as on the route to the Loire (another favourite to visit).

Know that route from Cherbourg/Caen to Aquitaine so well.
Day One Crash: They caught the dozy mare, after pointing the finger of blame at fans from other nations, she lived local, could face a year in le clinque
Are they making her a scapegoat ?, I've seen 100s of examples of worse behaviour by tdf spectators over the years, maybe not a worse outcome but worse behaviour, I wonder what they will try and do her for and if they will be able to get a conviction against her, if they get a conviction and heavy sentence would it open a can of worms ?

“unintentional short-term injury through a manifestly deliberate breach of a duty of safety or care”.

Yes I read that, was she at the side of the road ?, was she as entitled to be on that patch of god's earth as somebody else ?, but the big one is people in the middle of the road chasing riders, which she wasn't, people chucking things at cyclists, spitting at them, running alongside them, I don't remember such a fuss in the past for worse behaviour, if they come down heavy on this woman it could open a can of worms, will they then let worse offenders off because by luck nobody gets hurt and will they do some child on the pavement for a flag blowing out their hands and bringing the peleton down ? There again what if a cyclist goes into the crowd and hurts spectators because the cyclist was going to fast and not paying due care and attention ?, I'm not sure if it's the right thing to go after this woman.

entitled to be there, yes, leaning out in front of the cyclists traveling at a hell of a speed to get on the telly, then guilty as hell. She wasn't even looking at the race.
The prats you are on about are guilty as well but they're usually on a mountain stage when theres only a few cyclists and they're not going as fast as these were.

The clip I seen the cyclists were barely turning a wheel, I don't think it was possible for them to go any slower, it was a few days ago and perhaps I was watching a slow motion replay.

It may seem perverse but injuries sustained whilst travelling at a 'slower' speed can be more serious than those sustained whilst travelling flat out.

Not exactly crawling but they had certainly slowed down a little, I've forgotten why. I don't think it was a feed zone as it wasn't too far from the finish.

They were crawling, the woman had probably given up on them arriving at her spot they were so slow, lol.

Perhaps that woman should sue the race for breaking the trades description act, the cyclists weren't racing her grandfather and grandmother could cycle quicker.

Average speed in the Tour is around 40 Km/h. Whilst at sprints this exceeds 60km/h, there are more kms on mountains stages where speeds drop. A long climb like Alpes D'Huez will be around 30km/h and a shorter but brutal climb like Mont Ventoux will be closer to 20km/h for most riders. Taking it easy would be as fast as most of us can cycle.

Check the footage of the crash, the clip I seen they were going as slow as it is possible to go on a push bike without falling over, I wonder what that was all about ?

Must be watching in slow motion. Looks like they were going at least 30km/h in real time

I used to regularly go quicker than that down the Rhigos and Banwen banks mun as a boy and I didn't have push bike worth more than some cars like those fellows or like some of the competitors have done in the past taking performance enhancing drugs.

That's on the flat. They would be up to 100 km/h downhill. A single stage would be like cycling from Newtown on the A483 to Builth, past Brecon, over the Beacons, Rhigos, Bwlch and down the Afan Valley to Swansea. They would outpace any of us on a Raleigh Grifter
