Should Andy Burnham be Labour leader ? 20:03 - Oct 4 with 2925 viewstrampie

Should Burnham be Labour leader, would he appeal to the English ? (that is who he has to appeal too), is he a man of the left but with Tony Blair's slickness ?

I suspect he wouldn’t excite quite the same enthusiasm outside of consciously cosmopolitan Manchester, John. I picked up a copy of Sebastian Payne’s ‘Broken Heartlands: a journey through Labour’s lost England’ last week and it’s a book I’d recommend anybody interested in politics reads. As an exercise in taking the temperature of the neglected it could hardly be bettered.

Burnham, on the face of it, seems to be pretty much an identikit for everything former Labour voters in the north east rejected. Another roller off the assembly line of professional politicians who has never worked outside of the TU/Party cash-flush bubble.

I'm sure you are familiar with the old saying "it's grim up North", just ask Perch, he is well aware of it as he lives there.
