I have over the years seen a film where a German pilot is shot and his goggles filled with blood. Very dramatic and a tad gorey.
I've always believed that film to be 'Battle of Britain'. However, having seen that film a few times over the years and today most recently, that scene is not in the film.
I am certain I've not dreamt this up. I've searched the Internet but there is no mention anywhere of this scene in Battle of Britain or any other film.

Thank you very much. Clearly this scene has been taken out along with various others no doubt for timing purposes.
I remember seeing it in the cinema when it was first released. Gave me a few nightmares after that and even now I get a strange feeling watching it.
I noticed in yesterday's showing, the scene where Susannah York's character is told by an NCO to put her cigarette out was missing and I knew that was in the film originally.
yes you're right , the scene was cut from yesterdays showing on Channel 5 and also another scene when Squadron Leader Harvey played by Christopher Plummer Harvey was seen on fire before he bailed out

Hark at the expert, great knowledge Boundy.
Can you tell me why Sten guns were prone to going off if you dropped them. I used to know someone who managed to shoot himself in the harris!
Cheers, although I never fired one ( the Stirling SMG had replaced it when i was serving ) the sten gun was rushed into production early in the war after Dunkirk and although the design was simple and cheap to produce , the amount of different manufacturers meant that some poor quality parts were assembled in the final product . The design meant that due to a poor safety catch some inadvertent misuse use of the weapon such as a severe jolt or bang could cause the firing pin to engage with the percussion cap and hence the ND ,but overall a much favoured weapon by airborne troops where close quarter combat such as house clearance etc was the order of the day as the Germans used the same ammunition then it was "easy" to acquire a resupply . As Canadian soldier S. N. Teed apostrophised poetically: “You wicked piece of vicious tin! / Call you a gun? Don’t make me grin. / You’re just a bloated piece of pipe. / You couldn’t hit a hunk of tripe. / But when you’re with me in the night, / I’ll tell you, pal, you’re just alright!”

Spanish versions weren't they with Rolls Royce engines.
The He-111s were all from the Spanish airforce I think.
Hispano Buchons, there were 2 at Swansea Airport during the last Swansea airshow. Think they were the same ones from the film, they fly regularly at the Duxford airshows.

A sad outcome to Dowdings career, like a lot of this countries "heroes " he was dismissed after the battle due to his perceived mishandling of the events , one of his main antagonists was Leigh Mallory ( of the big wing fame , a tactic which Dowding wasn't a great supporter of ) and Bader who did . It is said that both conspired against Dowding . Both he and Park ( Trevor Howard in the film ) were both dismissed shortly after . Dowding retired in 1942

Fully endorse Howens recommendation, I go there every year if I can, also highly recommend, RAF museum Hendon, IWM Duxford and Fleet Air Arm museum in Yeovilton. All great days out, if your more into your armour then the Tank museum in Bovington is definitely the place to visit.

I had planned a weekend at Duxford last year , then the dreaded 19 came about, I will try early next year to make it.
It's top notch to be fair, a lot of the film in the OP was filmed there. Definitely the hangar exploding. Not too far away from Duxford is the Shuttleworth collection which is also worth a visit if you can fit it in.

I highly recommend it also if you can and you've time visit the Cambridge American Cemetery just 10 minutes up the road towards Cambridge, its a sobering visit ,, immaculately laid out and maintained by American Battle Monuments Commission.

The cigarette scene was definitely still included the other day, sad to say that I was waiting for the NCO to shout at her when she raised it to her mouth and he certainly did right on cue.

Agreed, I found it by accident, a real sobering experience, beautifully manicured and laid out.

Worth visiting for the Cold War collection and the British post war experimental band prototypes including TSR2. A few WW2 planes including an Me262 and Komet. Good recommendation.

Really? This was the Channel 5 showing on Saturday.
I saw it over 2 days so could have missed it but I didn't think I had.
