He is a larger than life character of 'bad-boy' type/reputation whose presence I guess is something that darts governing organisations and TV companies probably yearn for. I bet they'd be right cheesed off if he did not compete at or lost in the early stages of a tournament. I guess they would not openly admit to that though!
A guy who surely must be a major plus for darts/TV sponsorship, advertising, revenue along with public interest. People will always turn on their TV's to watch certain people even if they aren't fans of them, ditto the bygone days of John McEnroe. |

I think the Mervyn King thing was because he slagged the professional game off and then joined it himself, I don't think he was liked by his fellow players either, I don't think Phil Taylor had any time for him. for one. | |
