| Australian Open Matchday (fortnight) Thread 21:30 - Jan 16 with 3468 views | Dr_Parnassus | Winner: Djokovic officially now ruled out of the tournament opening the door for both Medvedev and Zverev to pick up the title. Outside of those two, it looks tough to make a case for anyone else. Ones to watch: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Both Sinner and Alcaraz have won the Next Gen tournaments in recent years but couldn’t be more opposite. Sinner as the skinny Italian with perfect technique and Alcaraz the strong as an ox Rafa clone. Both could go deep in the tournament. Long shot: Aslan Karatsev. One off the Russian production line but with some Spanish influences in his game. The Russian game has been based on power in recent years but Karatsev mixes power with insane angle and touch, has a very tough draw facing Jaume Munar in the first round who is another of the Next Gen crop but Karatsev is another will all the tools to go far, draw permitting. Winner: For the women’s side, everything points to Ash Barty but is certainly more open than the men’s side outside of her. Ones to watch: Barbora Krejcikova and Paula Badosa. The recent Sydney Final and one of the highest quality women’s matches I have seen for some time. Two contrasting styles, both could have felt hard done by not winning it. Badosa has nerves of steel and a great record in pressure matches, 3 from 3 in Finals. Long shot: Clara Tauson. Her draw is far too difficult to go far, looks like she runs into Kontaveit very early but she can certainly spring a shock. - edit to add that the above could be majorly affected by Covid. As soon as someone tests positive then they are out of the tournament. Could potentially be carnage of covid does creep into the tournament. [Post edited 17 Jan 2022 6:45]

| Australian Open Matchday (fortnight) Thread on 07:05 - Feb 3 by Dr_Parnassus | Don’t be so silly. I named ones to watch and long shots, specifically stating they won’t win but ones to watch to unexpectedly go far, which of course they did. You are just bitter because while you didn’t have the balls to give an opinion, I ended up with the winner in one side and the finalist in the other. You are welcome. |
Medvedev and Barty were the top seeds and favourites, picked by most people.

There was only two people brave enough to put their picks down before the tournament so I’m afraid there is no evidence of this “most people” claim you make. Thankfully for tennis being top seed doesn’t mean you will win, hence they were both odds against, Barty 5/1 for example, suggesting she had a far greater chance of not winning than winning. Strange you never picked a winner… next time eh?

I gave Barty alone on the women’s side who was 5/1. Hence why I gave a “winner” section. I then went on to highlight a few “ones to watch” and “long shots”. They specifically said they probably wouldn’t win. Get with the programme. On the men’s side I said there are two main chances. One of which got the the Final and was 2-0 and 3 break points up. Let’s see you get your big boy pants on and compete with that profitability for the French. I’ll look forward to it Champ

You should have been brave enough to pick them then if it was that obvious, you seemed far too scared to give your own opinion. There was more chance that they wouldn’t win than would win. They were both odds against, heavy odds against in terms of Barty who hadn’t won it in 8 previous attempts. Medvedev was $2.80 Barty was $6.00 If you backed them both with $100 you would have returned $600 with your $200 investment. A 3/1 tip I gave you there lad. You’re welcome. Picked for what? Going far in the tournament? Why would you ignore them as opposed to praising me for being correct…. I gave you 3 potential winners at odds against for 2 winners spots. One was a 5/1 winner the other was a 13/8 finalist. As I said, you’re welcome. I’ll be looking forward to you trying to beat that profitability for the French… or your excuses why you can’t. Both will be as entertaining as each other

I picked Barty, Medvedev and Zverev under the “winner category”. If you backed all 3 you would have made an excellent profit as they were all odds against, Barty being 5/1. You are welcome. Excited to see your picks for the French, no doubt you won’t want to look silly by not giving your picks before the tournament again. We will see if you can beat my profitability…

Each way one the ones to watch? Of course not because that means I think they would get to the final, which isn’t close to what I said now is it? You are grasping at straws. Why would I lay Nadal? I didn’t mention him in any of my previews, I was asked a direct question regarding my opinion on his chance of winning. I said “I don’t see him as a winner personally”, odds were about right at around $10. I had no strong feelings either way hence why he did not form part of my preview. Barty was available at $5.80 on the exchange. I thought you claimed to know odds? Where were your picks Tramps? Don’t tell me you were too scared to post them again…
