Cooper v Martin v next season 14:43 - May 1 with 1898 viewsguthrieintherain

9.2 on aggregate this season.

Cooper win %55
Martin win %37.

We have conceded a huge amount of goals recently 2nd half

Fulham 4
Reading 3
Bournemouth 3
Forest 4.

None of them teams are world beaters and we should at least be competitive against them.

Chuck in a few other games.

Stoke home and away conceded 3 each game.
Sheff Utd 4
Preston wiped the floor the floor with us up there.

These are scary scores and Martin has done nothing to date in his managerial career.

His in game management is non existent.
Yet he has a massive ego why?

Time for a change I think he is not upto the job hopefully the Watford rumours are true.

Some either have dementia or were not around whenever we had gates of a few thousand in the old third and fourth divisions.
At least they missed or have forgotten the smell of pee when eating those 300 degree pasties.

I was there then possibly even before you but fail to understand what that has to do with where we find ourselves today?

I think the point we are trying to get across is that we don't have god given right to be in the PL, we are on paper a mid to upper championship club, we have done so well to stabilise after 7 years in the PL, most of us know our place but a few think we should be in the PL.

I have no such thought but do believe this squad is better than 16th place and cannot accept the "nostolgia" of the good old bad old days for an excuse of underperformance.
I miss those old days when you could just rock up to the vetch stand on the North banks with your mates...enjoy a game where often we were expected to lose..the board being local businessmen I'm talking pre silver shield..
modern football with the minutes from Sky etc fave changed all that.
Deserve to ge in the PL no expect better given where we are and the squad yes

I too think we are better 15th 😉

It's been a topsy-turvy season and if we recruit well even after losing a couple have a good pre season I truly believe we will be there or thereabouts this time next year.

It's the non understanding of the situation that is the issue....we went through a very big turn around during the summer and some expected us to kick on from that, never happening!

We recycled over 50% of the starting team last season, we signed well but it's taken time for them to settle in and establish themselves, some have done it quicker than most. Defensively we are far weaker than we were last season, we haven't sorted that area out and that Wil be addressed in the summer, as an attacking force we have improved on last season even after losing Ayew and Lowe... We gambled on 2 strikers and luckily that worked out.

The summer will be an interesting one for sure.

interesting take but the situation was similar for both Potter and Cooper...Lowe only left after Martin arrived so at the season start it was only Ayew from attack we strengthened midfield with Downes, Pato and Natchm
Rhys Williams arrived to replace Geuhi.he had played Champions League and PL for Liverpool and we only needed to find a Robert's replacement .

We signed Williams but he failed to replace Guehi and that needed to be addressed and a mistake seems to have been made again in signing Burns.

Defence will be a big priority and rightly so in the summer.

mistake or mismanagement by Martin
why play a player naturally leftsided player who had previously played in the PL and Champions league by Klopp on the right hand side?
following which the young player became a victim of abuse affecting his mindset.
I agree we need to sort the defence but I xabt understand how our manager who himself is an ex defender sets us up as he dues

Yep it’s the same every single year with regards to turnover of players.

Was the same with Potter, was the same with Cooper. Martin seems to be a bit coddled by some, anything that it’s exactly perfect then that’s the excuse to write of a whole season.

“Bought some new players you say? Knock it on the head then chaps, do what you want this year.”

Bizarre.

I was there, season ticket holder every year in those days. Loved it.

But we were where we were, because that was the limitations of our team. It has nothing to do with where we are now, or where we should be due to the strength of our team.

I remember Man City in the bottom leagues too. Reckon if they come 10th next year the fans will be saying “what you moaning about, we were rubbish before”? No.

Expectations change with circumstance. We are much better than a side who sits in 15th place. To accept any dross just because we were not very good 20 years ago is lunacy.

We are 15th because there are 14 better teams than us in the championship. Our Squad is probably not the 15th worse in the division but our manager seems unable to adapt tactics and get the team to defend.

We were above Forest when Cooper was appointed their manager yet they have gone on a wonderful run since even though Cooper did not have a preseason with them and could not sign any players until January.

Yep spot on.

If you could swap squads with anyone in this league, I would struggle to name 6 or 7.

That's the caliber of our squad. Obafemi, Piroe and Pato as a trio are among the best in each position we have had at this level. Adding Grimes, Downes, Ntcham, Cabango and Naughton behind them is a fantastic unit - the fact we find ourselves languishing in 15th is a travesty.

As you say, Cooper took over a Forest team rock bottom of the league, after finishing 17th the season before and people thinking they were heading for the trap door. A lot of Cooper bashers said ''let's see how good he is now....'', that's what they thought of Forest's team at the time.

He has since outstripped even the likes of Fulham and is the best performing manager in the league by a fair old distance. Again, no pre season, only one January window and only a matter of days to convey his ideas to his team who were at rock bottom confidence levels.

There is no excuse and Cooper has shown exactly what can be achieved when taking over a side in non-ideal circumstances.
