| Expect another wave on 07:05 - Jun 16 by Dr_Winston | I always have very great difficulty taking seriously anyone still claiming that the NHS is "underfunded". It's usually found in the list of largest employers in the World with nearly 1.5m people working for it and an annual budget in the ballpark of £150bn. What it is is very poorly run and immensely wasteful. Unfortunately any Government knows that it's a sacred calf and any serious attempts to reform it would be political suicide. It's why the constant declarations that the Tories are on the verge of privatising the NHS are and always have been laughable. The moment they do it they lose the next election and they're well aware of that. They might tinker around the edges but no more and the calls for ever increasing sums of money to be poured into it will continue. I do have sympathy for the front line staff though. I would probably agree that not enough resource is actually making it through to the places that matter. |
It’s a political football to be sure. I was surprised to read that the NHS spends far less on administration then OECD counterparts. That’s not the narrative we’re given about an army of pen pushers doing nothing and could explain why money isn’t getting to where it should. We should certainly be looking at a degree of means testing (prescriptions for a start) and also getting away from the story that it’s immigrants taking people’s appointments and that’s the only reason why we’re stretched.

Can you give an example of immigrants being blamed as the only reason the nhs is stretched ? Or did you make that up ?

Just a quick example that common in the press: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/ne I don’t use the ignore button but this will be the one and only time I’ll interact with you out of courtesy. That takes the total of people I won’t interact with on line or in real life to one. Take care and I wish you well.

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

The worst bit is the NHS isn't beyond saving, its just that it wouldn't make anyone any money to do so.
