| 40,000 on 19:48 - Nov 13 by Dr_Winston | The weak, ineffective approach to dealing with illegal/economic migration helps nobody, and perhaps least of all those genuinely fleeing persecution. They tend to get lumped in with everyone else. |
The lust to pull up the drawbridge completely has made this situation worse and blinded the government to the practicalities of dealing with this complex issue with humanity as well as efficiency. Right now its the worst of all worlds for people fleeing persecution, tooth gritting gammon who want to send them all back, woke pinko lefties who want to give peace a chance, and everyone in between. The Government aren't processing asylum applications at any reasonable speed, and they've done nothing to counter the criminal gangs exploiting refugees and "economic migrants" alike. We should be opening up routes for settlement so people fleeing persecution have safe, legal passages to claim asylum in this country, not shutting them down. The more people that we can get applying through safe routes, the less people we will see crossing the channel.

What was your question? How do we stop immigrants from coming to this country? The answer is we can't. And anyone who says that we can is either a birdbrain or a liar. Also anyone who thinks a country can function with no immigration whatsoever is a dunce. Or are you using terms like immigrants and asylum seekers interchangeably like something thick people and racists do?

i hope an innocent non-racist doesn't use terms like immigrant and asylum seeker interchangeably because he/she will either be branded 'thick' or wrongfully smeared racist by the very people who preach tolerance.

It depends on the context innit. People can make innocent mistakes on terminology, or people can preach hate while wallowing in their own ignorance.

In fairness though I don’t suppose it’s straightforward to “process” 40,000 people most of whom have thrown their ID in the sea, we don’t know who they are or where they come from. You’ve got 40 year old men pretending to be children. The whole thing is completely unworkable.

And yet we treat these folks a million times better than any other European country. Take France for example. They are more than happy for migrants to be living in these ‘jungle’ camps for months on end in the freezing cold. No sanitation, if it wasn’t for the charities (lots of them British btw) bringing them food and clean water it would be a million times worse. We are putting them in five star hotels the minute they step onto our soil. And they’ve still got the cheek to moan.

At some stage they will have to be put into camps because the Manston crisis, U.K lack of housing availability and dwindling hotel room availability will see to that. Then of course the very types whom have shown absolutely no concern about the U.K population increase of approx the size of 40-Swansea populations(s) since the year 2000 and whom have a "get more in just for the sheer hell of it" (just to virtue signal) approach will be outraged at living conditions. Seriously what did they expect from what they actively encouraged? And others who predicted and showed concern for the obvious looming catastrophe were branded gammon, racist and thick! When?..... Engineering, Brigade H.Q planning and big business etc all apply basic common sense and think along exactly the same lines. You know, stuff like structural weight bearing capacity, logistical ability to perform a deployment, meeting supply and demand etc. The world of the sixth form/college campus WOKEY man-child minded is vastly different i.e. there is no "to every action there is an opposite and equal reaction" realisation and grasp of reality.

What do the conditions in France have to do with our inability to process asylum claims? People are being put up in hotels because we can't process their applications in a reasonable time frame. We aren't dealing with a record number of people claiming asylum and this is hardly a new occurrence so why is the system a mess? Because our Home Office has been run by spiteful clowns who've preferred to chase cheap headlines than do their job,

It's absolutely fascinating that you're blaming the very people who aren't actually in charge for this total mess. There are less than 400 000 people living in this country who are here because they sought asylum, and more than half of those have been in the country for longer than 15 years. That's about one and a half times the population of Swansea, not 80.

The double standards here are unreal. These folks cross an entire continent. Sometimes even two. There are numerous countries that could “process” them in a reasonable timeframe. But they are left free to roam and fend for themselves in jungle camps. Then the minute they enter our waters we pick them up, put them in hotels or barracks and look after them. It may not be the best situation but they are looked after. Given warmth and food and medical care. Yet we are the bad guys for not “processing” them quickly enough. We are the deeply institutionally racist ones despite looking after them a million times better than anyone else. I can only imagine the uproar if we built the sort of jungle camps that are common place in the north of France. I know it’s fashionable for a certain type of person to run down Britain and her people at every given opportunity and our system might be screwed but we show so much more humanity than 99% of the countries out there and I suppose we should be proud of that but it’s a big part of the reason so many want to come here.

I don't think getting mad at a hypothetical "certain type of person" you've constructed is going to help resolve the issue. Are you happy that we only processed 4% of the asylum applications we received last year from people who crossed the channel in a boat? If we process applications faster then people who are successful in staying can be put to work if they are able to. It will save the state money and provide certainty and a safe, fresh start to someone who needs it. Likewise people who shouldn't be here or are unsuccessful in their claim can be deported.

Well I did happen to mention a few days back that the government was responsible for housing individuals in 4 star accommodation which was obviously going to encourage people to be smuggled in rather than deter them. And it does look like the Tories are indeed in total agreement with your "the more the merrier" mindset. And like I have previously mentioned over the past few years that the (nigh 40 x's Swansea/equivalent unsustainable population increase as of 2022) started under New Labour and has continued to rise with the Tories.
