Again we saw his side do everything he wanted them to do but in his words without the ‘aggression and fight’ that would have seen this game paint a completely different picture had they done so. 0 It can’t be all one man’s fault ! | Russell Martin : ‘ We don’t want to fight properly’ And he is 100% right ! on 12:44 - Dec 28 by Badlands | Cabango to blame for the first goal! Christ on a bike. Nothing to do with a corner. The play had moved on and Cooper gave away a free kick on the other side of pitch! Two Swans players switched off at the edge of the box and allowed Carroll all the time in the world. Just how far back do you take play to blame a player or is it just another case of Cabango bashing? Second goal … was Cabango’s fault. Benda made a weak pass aimed at Grimes (a usual play), Grimes walked away from it and Joe Allen was sleeping but made a play, Darling was caught out, Benda's positioning was wrong but Ince's finish was inch perfect. However, Cabango had broken wind on the half way line just as the ball went out of play for a goal-kick so it must have been his fault. |
I have to disagree about the second goal, much as I have criticised Grimes, he didn't walk away. It was a poor pass and Joe Allan ran across grimes path to get the ball, he brought the defender with him because he was marking Joe. That defender slid in and the ball sprang to Ince who's shot took the deflection. It was poor all around. The goal kick, I am sick of seeing it, ho much trouble has it caused us? I can blame Martin for that because we didn't do it before he arrived, did we? If the players don't have the proper fight in them, who do we blame? For me it has to be the man who has turned them into a bunch of journeymen footballers only here to pick up their wages. Martin has demotivated most of the squad. Anybody with any fight has been ignored until they fall into line, they have had the spirit beaten out of them which means we could easily be in a relegation fight.

The Coventry game seems to fit the notional Martin mantra. The players are instructed to dominate the ball for 60 mins, not to take the lead and score but to "tire out the opposition". This actually occurred against Coventry who were out on their feet after 70 minutes. Unfortunately they were already 3-0 ahead while Swansea were "taking their legs away" and "putting work into their legs " as Martin calls it. It has also happened in Cardiff games. This appears to be the Martin mantra. Last season Swansea were often in front and contrived to lose leads if you recall. This season the mantra is notionally working more in line with the model in that Swansea are coming on strong at the end of games not hanging on. Are Swansea under performing early in games because of these prescriptive tactics of trying to wear out the opposition?. If so it it is a novel way of playing and an unsuccessful way of playing because after 18 months results have been consistently bang average. Reading were 2-0 up before Swansea really pressed and Reading held out.
