Oh come on, that would depend on the situation. If I was facing losing the house and it was sell or lose it all for nothing, then yes I would.

It's hardly a vaild comparison though, my house can't refuse a new contract, kick me out and choose its new owner.

No I get that but a club swimming in parachute money should be able to afford 850k if thats what we want.

It's not about what they can afford, it's about what they will pay.

Would you prefer we got stuck with Martin on gardening leave, still paying his wages which would surely affect the transfer budget? In that time then, his compo fee would drop every month. Like I said, we have to be pragmatic.

They won't want a delay either hopefully common sense will prevail and a deal will be reached.

My guess is the figure will be somewhere in the middle.

I hope so, if they have drawn a line in the sand, or we have, then we are stuck.

The club are doing the right thing in my opinion, why should we let Saints get away cheap, its not just about Martin.

The backroom staff he's taking needs to be compensated for.

Hopefully the truth will come out in the wash

At the moment our club is in the process of changes in the hierarchy which also coincides with changes at Southampton.
Hardly a recipe for constructive conversations between the two clubs.
Nothing to do with being negative towards the owners, as Badlands believes.
Just stating it as it is

Totally agree with your first paragraph and the comments Vetchetonian made re Cooper allegedly being priced out of a move on account of the compo figure.

There is no reason why Martin has to resign - in fact I think he’d be mental if he resigned unless of course he’s got a rock solid case for constructive dismissal. If he resigns he won’t get any pay outs etc, in fact there’s a possibility he could be sued for breach of contract as he’s got 1 year left on his deal.

If the club want shot of him they’ve got 3 options, the first is to sack him and pay him off, the second is to put him on gardening leave to make room for a new boss and the third is to take an offer from another club. From a financial perspective the third option is the most attractive.

In terms of Martin’s managerial team, once again a sensible pragmatic approach is required. If there’s money on the table, they want out and the new manager wants his own team (as is often the case) then a deal needs to be struck or the club ends up with coaches the new gaffer doesn’t want.
