I was but a callow teen when Manchester United came to town. This particular time they stayed at the Osborne hotel in Mumbles, which is no longer there. I was at the front door hoping for autographs but they weren't letting people in.
Suddenly a group of men appeared up the steps from the beach, the team had been down training. Most of them ignored me and my mates but MCQueen was straight over for a chat and to sign our books. he was a big bloke and his smile was just as big. I got several autographs that morning yet big Gordon is the only one I remember. maybe becaue he was the first one and came so willingly when other big names turned their backs. |  | | |

I have a work colleague from Paisley, says that Gordon would do anything to help St Mirren, never asked for a penny in return.

I remember Wales V Scotland 1981 in the home international championships. Wales won 2 -0 many thousands of Scottish fans in ground with no segregation the Scottish fans seemed to get tickets among the Welsh fans. The Scottish fans turned on the Scottish team and McQueen.
