Don't want to put a downer on it but we haven't won at Brisbane in nearly 40 years. Five of the six tests we've played there this century have been lost by MASSIVE margins. I think it would be worth lumping on Australia with those stats and that's before you factor in their near perfect record in pink ball tests in Australia (won 13 in 14). [Post edited 3 Dec 22:31]

I would too. But Broad seems to think it’s a huge advantage to bat first. He reckons the “afternoon” session (2nd one) is the very hard one to bat in. He thinks bat first, get a start, get through session 2, and then you can bat through sessions 3 and 4. The problem with his logic is this England team only average 67 overs an innings…which is a smidgeon over 2 sessions. Don’t want half of an innings to be in a the hard session. So I’d bowl, and try to bowl Aus out in 2 sessions with the assistance of the hard session. Then try to bat well in sessions 3 and 4, before the really tricky session swings around. I doubt England will apply this sort of thinking and will simply do what they think is the most aggressive thing.
| Ashes thread on 00:06 - Dec 4 with 836 views | Superhoops2808 | Here's an idea... Lets lose the toss and let them choose. That way that's one less thing to get criticised for From what I have read, if we can survive the first session - then batting gets easier as the pink ball is different to previous tests | | | |
| Ashes thread on 04:08 - Dec 4 with 746 views | numptydumpty | Woke up early. Watched Starc bowl the first over. Well done Ben Duckett - Golden Duck...... Pope out for a duck as well. Bonus Crawley has his first runs of the series. Another two day test match perhaps. The arrogance of Stokes and McCullum turning down a warm up game to get some form back for the batters !!!! Think I will try get a couple hours more kip !!! [Post edited 4 Dec 4:15]

Morning all. Not an auspicious start. Deja vu? Channel 7 pundits analysis - spot on.

C7 has a good team on Comms. Looking to headhunt Tyler for the home series - just his socials alone will be enough in the interview. Beats a PowerPoint hands down these days.

Just scanned down the threads quickly and saw the ‘Coming back from 4;1 down’ at number 4…..made me chuckle.

| Ashes thread on 06:58 - Dec 4 with 530 views | RBlock | Really good rebuild from Crawley and Root. Creepy really needed these after his pair, looking dominant. Approaching twilight soon though - Neser and Doggett bowling now, feels like they're saving Starc for the poor lighting. | | | |

So predictable - and Starc has Stokes in trouble most innings.
