The massive question for me after last night is. Why we started with ony two of the (10?) new signings. I would imagine Leon, Joe and KOL had a massive say in selection due to Matos not knowing the players well enough yet. Do these three who have watched the performances all season think we bought poor players in general in the summer with a couple of exceptions.. We have had all the excuses this player is for the future, this player will take time to get up to speed, this player is lacking fitness, this player will take time to adapt to the physicality of the championship BS they have been here between 4 to 6 months and haven't cut it. Blame the coach if you like but as I have been saying for months data based recruitment is flawed.
Sheehan and his coaching staff have gone, last Saturday's game was just a fiasco in selection and tactics, bringing Santos on and pushing Burgess forward and wide, what was that all about. The selection team last night preferred what we had last season and in my opinion did well until they scored and heads dropped. So is this squad any better than ladt season currently no in my opinion. |

Is it a coincidence that a manager who has had premier league experience as a player and a manager is tearing up the championship? I am referring obviously to Frank Lampard . He has had a player's perspective of what works and also from a manager's point of view . He has played alongside some of the biggest names in football and he has played under some of the biggest managerial names in football .
He has brought premier league standards to Coventry who went for the premiership experience because that is where they are aiming to be. We have Vitor Matos and I am hoping that some of that premier stardust has rubbed off on him . i know that Klopp is available on the hotline if advice is needed. i am sure that Matos will deliver given time.
One of the stand out things for Cov is the way that their goals are spread around the team Even without Hagi Wright their leading marks man they have Thomas Assante and now Ellis Simms banging them in . Victor Torp Jack Rudoni Mason Clarke and Sakamoto all know where the net is . Even the centre backs have contributed and the full backs Jay de Silva and Van Ewicjk are full of attacking intent. In short if someone isn't doing it there is always someone around who can . Confidence is high throughout their team and our man Matos will have to get some confidence back into the Swans if we are to be a force again . We will have to enlarge our pool of regular scorers . We can't just rely on Vip or Idah , that will mean more attack minded drills in training / shooting practices .
At the moment our opponents are defending deep and saying - You can't score past us . Millwall did it here and Derby last night . We had 75 % possession last night and lost !
That shows we are not exploiting the superiority in possession and must be doing something wrong in attack . Last night loose passing at crucial times did not help . We gave the ball away too cheaply in the final third , some times passing straight to the opposition -in short we were way below Championship standard . The final third is where it counts , that's where the goal is . Derby were quite content to watch us play pretty passes around at times when we were further up the field but it is an illusion . It looks great but utimately achieves nothing . As soon as we entered the last third the marking was far tighter and the gaps closed . We were clueless in in how to solve the conundrum .
This is where Matos will have to earn his corn and get us becoming a threat again. | | | |
