| How can Scotland afford this? on 13:09 - Dec 1 with 404 views | Whiterockin | The headline is a bit misleading. Isn't it a 5 day working week with 4 days teaching and one day for preparation and marking. | | | |

It's the addional cover that's the cost WR as it's 10% more no-contact time that England and Wales. | | | |
| How can Scotland afford this? on 13:35 - Dec 1 with 369 views | Demitrius | It's already happening in England to a certain extent with there being inset days before and after term breaks. This is just taking it a step further and it's not like having a day off to play golf or do DIY etc..it's still work. My friend's wife is a secondary school teacher with grown up kids and is nearly retired, but I can imagine that for teachers with school-age kids themselves it's a hard slog these days with class sizes, Ofsted etc. and the pay isn't great from what I gather. People point to the summer holidays and half-terms but there is a certain amount of playing catch up during this downtime, not to mention those staff that are involved in extra curicular activities like school trips, sports, D of E awards and it never feels like a proper break. | |

This is a bit different as essentially it's the Scotish government adding 10% to the teaching bill - it'll be a vast amount of money on top of what they're paying for free precriptions and for Scottish children going to unviversity. I'd love to know how they're managing to fund it. [Post edited 1 Dec 13:48]
