There’s would only be two extra games in total at the end of the season (7th/8th plays away at 5th/6th) so no disruption to the normal 46 game season at all.
There's nothing normal about a 46 game league season.
No other country in Europe and probably not in the world has that many fixtures in one of its top leagues where games are highly competitive and very intense.
Adding in more fixtures will not be as easy as you seem to think.
The global players union Fifpro is campaigning for players to play fewer games, not more
"Professional footballers should be allowed at least a four-week off-season break, plus a minimum four-week retraining period before a return to competition, according to a new report.
The study, released on Thursday by global players' union Fifpro, led to 70 medical and performance experts agreeing on 12 safeguards they want to introduce in a bid to protect players from exhaustion and excessive workload.
Fifpro said it represents the most extensive expert consensus to date on safeguards against excessive workload in professional football.
More than 75% agreement was required among participants to establish each recommendation.
Among the recommendations are:
a four-week off-season break
mandatory mid-season breaks
a minimum four-week retraining period before a return to competitive action
and mandatory consideration of the travel burden on players.
"This study presents safety standards based on the considered and independent opinions of medical and performance experts working in professional football who understand the mental and physical strain placed on players," Professor Doctor Vincent Gouttebarge, Fifpro medical director, said.
"If we can all agree that health comes first, then we should take steps to implement these safeguards."
The release of the report comes just days before the opening game of the Fifa Club World Cup in the United States.
Premier League sides Manchester City and Chelsea are both involved in the tournament, which concludes on 13 July.
Should either reach the final, players will have a gap of just five weeks before the Premier League season begins on 15 August.
Chelsea's first game of the Club World Cup takes place on 16 June, just 19 days after their Conference League final triumph over Real Betis.
In September, a week prior to suffering an ACL injury, City midfielder Rodri said players were close to going on strike because of the increase in games, while team-mate Manuel Akanji suggested he would have to retire at 30-years-old as a result of the lack of breaks in the calendar.
In October, Fifpro filed a legal complaint with the European Commission over what it said was Fifa's "abuse of dominance," which was specifically related to the Club World Cup."

I don't see any obvious need for an additional playoff in the Championship. The National League has a six team playoff for second place because there are only two promotion slots. First is automatic, but if second was as well interest in late season games would be minimal.
OTOH, I wouldn't go to wall opposing it in our division, there are bigger footballing fish to fry. Like the financial disparities between a handful of big favoured clubs and all the rest of us.

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that the 3rd and 4th placed clubs would be benefitting from parachute payments.
Giving those clubs a nice little rest while the 5th-8th placed clubs have to play a sudden death tie is just giving the financially advantaged teams with the better quality squads one more advantage over the rest.

IF they changed the playoffs and IF QPR qualified in 8th place it would mean ONE additional game on top of the normal playoffs. It’s really not worth cranking out reams of ChatGPT over it.

The reams are from a BBC article, and the link is in the post.
The BBC might use ChatGPT but I don't.
Regardless of whether or not QPR benefit, four teams will have to play that extra game.

Any playoff system that allows Leeds to race into a 10 point clear lead by October, stay there until March and still shìt the bed in scatalogically spectacular fashion in front of the whole world in May is fine in my book.

You seem very upset that it could lead to QPR playing an additional game a season which seems a bit of an overreaction to me. Probably a moot point anyway as QPR struggle to reach the top half most seasons.

First you accuse me of using ChatGPT.
Then you try calling me emotional.
What's next in Gaslighting for Dummies?
Maybe it's my time of the month!!
My points are about the welfare of the players at all EFL clubs, not just QPR.
I also believe it will probably benefit parachute money teams more than the rest because they are the most likely to finish 3rd and 4th.
Truthfully I think the TV companies will love this (in fact it's probably their idea), and what TV wants TV seems to get.
So it's not really worth arguing about because it is almost certainly going to happen.
And QPR will still probably be finishing in the bottom half!

Hopefully reject that. The play-offs are absolutely fantastic as they are. Rewarding mediocrity never a good idea.
The playoffs are fine as they are.
But if they were reduced to just a straight shootout between the third and fourth placed teams then the time currently spent on the playoff semis could be used to extend the regular season which in turn would mean fewer midweek games and fewer three-game weeks, less fixture congestion, and possibly fewer injuries!
On balance that would probably benefit QPR more than expanding the playoffs.
Just a suggestion! I will take it as read that no one agrees

And then get relegated the next season.
This nearly always happens to those that finish in the top 2 anyway. Burnley this season look like they will be relegated. Last season it was Leicester and Ipswich.
If QPR went up by finishing 8th and then got relegated it would be no different to when they went up as Champions (2 seasons) and play off winners (1 season). The gulf between the 2 leagues is huge.
At least with the EPL & parachute monies, if spent wisely and included huge paycuts or deferred wages if relegated, would allow the club to rebuild. Bournemouth and Fulham seem to be doing this after a few yo-yo seasons.

I’ll throw this one into the ring. Serie B in Italy do a similar thing as to what is being proposed eg. Top 2 automatic with 3rd to 8th having a play-off. BUT if there’s a gap of 14 or more points between 3rd & 4th then 3rd goes up automatically and there are no … repeat no play-offs.
I like that idea too.

As said above, if that rule had been in place for the last 25 years it would have benefited us.... zero times.
I know this but maybe , just maybe it might inspire them just a little bit more i.e, in Warburton's last 2 seasons QPR might just have won 1 more game to make the top 8.

As far as 'motivation' goes, have we thought about administering physical beatings?
I get it, QPR are a poor mediocre Championship side, (which is why I never understood fans in January 2015 thinking that relegation back to the Championship might be a good way to regroup and rebuild the club) but my point was that in the seasons of finishing 9th and 11th, they were 1 win away from a top 8 finish and maybe, just maybe, going all out to get those 3 points could have won a play off spot.
I know it isn't to everyone's liking, but it gets my approval.
All those complaining about the extra games, it's just 1 more game for those outside the top 4.

I know I've boringly said this before but I would really like to see some form of revamp across Europe whereby play off losers go into some form of Second Division only Continental Cup.
There must be millions of supporters of lower league teams who dream of competetive games against weird teams they've never heard of. It would make seasons more interesting than losing to bloody PNE every year and make for great away trips.
Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Bring back the Anglo Italian Cup!
Only had to look at how many went to Perpignan in the summer to see the thirst in our support base.
