Good game so far and the pitch looks way better than ours.

It’ll kill me if they win but it’s an incredible game.
Really sad that BBC have it and stuck it on BBC3 and Sky have it but have a Premier League Darts game on Main Event.
This is elite sport, full ground, violent, brilliant.

I thought that was incredible sport.
BBC stick it on BBC3, Sky bury it under darts league.

What do you want? Fast, violent, athletic, close, competitive, full house.
I was out of my seat the whole second half.

An incredible game with so much effort and skill expended by both sides and all played with great attitude and spirit.

Had a family do I couldn’t get out of, so sorry I missed it. They’re an amazing side, not the most talented squad in Super League but they just keep coming.

As usual I beg to differ, no fan of darts but rugby league is a minority sport largely played in one part of the country that is of little interest to huge swathes of the population. It has been around long enough to grow if people wanted it to,but they clearly don't. If you enjoy it by all means enjoy watching but please don't pretend it should be the main viewing option, it's very much a minority interest, I find it a hugely boring watch and like a large majority have no interest in it at all.

Each to their own - but I still wouldn't call BBC Three a main viewing option in this country!

Where was the game played?

What genuinely surprises me is that many people don't have any interest in League, but have some knowledge of Union. At least, the Six Nations.

Look at any game from either code & I can't understand how anyone doesn't think that League is faster & more skilful. And you don't waste half the playing time in mauls, rucks, scrums, throw ins!

True - but inevitably over the years all the bods at the RFU will have had a lot more pull re finances, media coverage, etc. Old school ties, funny handshakes, etc.

Gave Hull City’s pitch a rolling last night.

Cheers MrSheen.

Hull are obviously trying to let us feel at home on Saturday!

Agree totally with you.

Also, the number of former rugby league players and coaches who have transferred to the union side is further proof of how many aspects and ideas of league have been co-opted into union.

Lee Radford is currently at Northampton Saints and if you watch them play, the lines they run, their intelligent set plays, forwards with excellent handling skills always expecting the ball, speed of play and their aim is to keep the ball in play for long periods, are all rugby league fundamentals.

I much prefer league but I'm not averse to watching Northampton Saints who are a breath of fresh air in the union code.

On your earlier question about why people prefer one over the other…

There’s a dangerous team sport in a lot of cultures, but as they’re all more complicated and risky to play than football, they struggle for the same casual attention and increasingly player numbers. As to which is the better of Union, League, American Football, it’s much more about family, place and tradition (all things being eroded to the benefit of football). The reason why UHT milk exists, lack of refrigeration in poor hot European areas, doesn’t apply anymore but it’s as popular in the same areas as it ever was, because people give kids the milk their parents gave them and so on, setting their tastes for life. Give them fresh milk (obviously a better product!) and they’ll think it’s rotten. I look at AFL and see all the things that look wrong about it, the shape of the ball, the field, the posts, the scoring system, how hitting the post and own goals are no big deal, the vests…and there’s 90,000 people in the ground going potty.

Radford even got Hull FC winning things so he must be at least half decent!
