My Nan & Gramps always took Red Salmon and cucumber sarnies away with them when we went to the races as a kid....Chepstow, Newmarket, Goodwood, Ascot...
I thought of how posh it all was...but the car stank like a hookers drawers...

My Nan was what you would call a working class snob in that she insisted in only bought premier tinned foods, Heinz John West Princes etc....

Salmon has life long connotations for me,viz,chapel and funerals
Salmon sandwiches in the vestry after prayer meetings and then funerals
That and corned beef and Sherry for Nans and Mackesons for chaps

I see salmon as the fish of death

I’ve not eaten it in tinned firm for 60 yrs at least

Cornbeef is lovely in with a JP, Cheese and beans, desert spoon of branston pickle and some of colesaw and you're onto a winner.
