Looked at this more. Bayern have been Champions for thirteen out of the last fourteen seasons. The Bundesliga is competitively dead, which is sad because there's a lot to like about the way that they go about things, they just don't work.
Access to Champions League money has given Bayern an almost unassailable advantage. Rules over club ownership prevent anyone with outside money coming in to shake that up, and there are a number of massive German clubs who could do that given the chance.
A similar story exists in France where PSG have only missed out on the title twice since 2013. Italy saw Juve win nine on the bounce before a bit of sanity has returned the last couple of years. Spain is basically the Scottish League on Steroids, with Real or Barca trading titles barring the odd Atletico one here and there.
As much as people grumble about the Prem sometimes, at the start of every season there are usually at least five teams that you'd think would be capable of winning the title if they have a good season and have done so fairly recently. Ironically this probably works against it in Europe because PSG and Bayern can give their top talent a lot more rest for the CL games. | |
