Ollie Cooper deserves to go to Qatar but all is not good news in this.
He has taken the place of Fulham's 17 year old hot shot Luke Harris who has been subject to a £30m bid from Chelsea. He has pulled out for "personal reasons".
He could be having commitment issues and may even be eligible for other UK teams being born in Jersey.
He may have taken advice and told not to over commit having seen the criticism Declan Rice got. All the indications are he is a jewel in the Welsh underage crown so it seems like a blow. I think the rules have e relaxed considerably with FIFA but there are UK internal understanding as well to consider. U21 caps have never been a block as far as I am aware. Declan Rice played 5 times for RoI U21. I will have to check if they were all friendly games. | |

Harris trained with the full Welsh squad for the recent National league games as did Jordan James. This was seen as to engage the players into the Welsh camp and give then sense of belonging and comfort in the group.
Page will have asked Harris who is a regular u18 or u19 player if he fancied to tag along to Qatar and he agreed. Now with Chelsea interest and £30m mentioned agents are in his ear I would imagine. Financial issues are discussed I would imagine.
Page can only do his best. In general Wales have lost very few big talents. Woodburn Brooks and Ampadu for example. There are two big talents at Wolves. Chem Campbell and Owen Hesketh who have declined to put on Welsh u21 shirts recently but are eligible. They will find getting into the England team much much more difficult so he will no doubt come back into the fold. When you see Jaden Sancho not even on the plane they know it is very tough.
Matt Le Tissier was another Jersey player who w could have had a 100 caps for Wales instead of a few for England, | |
