| Academy prospects not ready. We knew this right? 14:38 - Jul 27 with 1944 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Mr Duff wants 5 or so new signings as the academy kids are according to Duff "not ready". Is this really a surprise?. Ollie Cooper, Cabango and Cullen are 22-23 or so and now established first team squad players. They are ready. Brandon Cooper is 23 and has 71 senior games under his belt in league 1 and 2 , NL and it its probably now or never for him. If he is not ready then perhaps time to move on like Garrick last season. Duff will have a good look at him any way. He will make a good career wherever he plays. Lissah - only just out of u18 Never played a Profession senior game. (PSG) Joe Thomas PSG = 0 Josh Thomas PSG = 0 Cardiff Met / Wales u21. Congreve PSG -= >10 Sub appearances. Cotterill PSG = >5 ? Sub appearances. Lloyd PSG = 0 Very young Abdullai PSG >5 Probably ready in correct position but loan possible. McFadyan PSG = 0? Loan required or move on perhaps. Webb PSG = 0 work with Mr Margetsn and see how it goes? The way I see it of the nine six should go out on loan. | |

It's very early for him to even go out on loan. Has bags of ability and is starting to fill out physically but a season in the u21s would be ideal imo. Young players rarely get ready without sufficient opportunities and experiences, and historically we haven't been able to count on other clubs to provide them for us. Newport have lost our phone number. Connor Roberts was nearly 20 when Darren Way took him on a one month injury cover loan, and fortunately he was needed to put his boots on during that period or he might be a full time carpenter now rather than a PL player. Dan James was sent back unused from Shrewsbury at the same age. Good loans hard to come by and many will be better off staying here, continuing to train with the first team, and hoping to impress enough for a cup cameo or two.

Looked overweight to me. Abdulai was a bright light. If Duff doesn’t see him as a player (wrong side and position and still offered positives) along with Congrieve and Josh Thomas then we have to question Duff or the Under 21 set up.

Doesn't have the pace to play a high line. A lot of similarities with Bennett. Thought he did alright first half but tired second and really struggled. Was it really any worse than the showing the others gave against Oxford though? First 90 of the season and Duff is working them hard.

Not sure how the 'woking them hard' is evident. Looked fatigued.

Surely working them hard is short term pain, for long time gain. Time will tell if it's the right tactic.

It can be but it can also lead to muscle fatigue especially if the increased training is a sudden increase to the body's workload. Muscle fatigue includes: soreness; localised pain; shortness of breath; muscle twitching; trembling; a weak grip; muscle cramps. None of which benefit the athlete and could lead to injury or extended time needed to overcome injury.

Surly the club medical and conditioning team would know enough to get this right.

He hasn't got a clue Rayns. Pre season training as most know is vital, you have to push yourself to the limit and a bit over to see where your limitations are, yes you will get a few niggles here and there but ffs these lot are professionals, they should be keeping a decent level of fitness in the off season so the pre season beasting won't be as bad. Not a professional but a very well informed amateur with courses in sports science and sports medicine throughout my time as an athletics and swimming coach. What I stated is factual and coaches and athletes often ignore their knowledge if pressured from above. Many athletes pick up injuries from muscle fatigued over training in pursuit of improved performance. For any sports player rest and recovery is essential. Don’t take my word for it, here's paper for you to ignore https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3435910/

I still think I'll take our medical teams experience over yours. No slight intended

Brandon is definitely short on pace but I was more concerned with his decision making on times, completely sold himself a couple of times letting the forward get in behind him - not good. I was there on Tuesday but haven't seen last Fridays game at all so couldn't comment on that!

It is ineviditble there will be d some fatigue and sub par performances. Duff and his team have the job to get the team ready for when it counts.
