Swansea City : DoF target hits the buffers & huge financial impact coming to SA1 6th Jun 2026 08:00
With the Swans still to appoint a Sporting Director / Director Of Football (DoF) there seems to be something in the air regards the finances that the club can access prior to July 1st. We’ve had a few conversations and can offer some reasoning behind the month of June being somewhat difficult regards expenditure. 0

Keith how do you see the change from PSR to the new SCR affecting our finances, in regard to the running debt of player purchases that been rolled over. Granted we probably still have incomings from sales to clubs with a similar policy but do you think the change will have a positive, negative or no difference affect on the way we run our finances. On the surface I think it could be detrimental because these running costs have to be taken out of the 85% before we even start, or is my current understanding completely incorrect.

First off last declaration we went 130%, new rules state it has to be 85% restricted to a rolling submission so clubs can get points deducted at any point from what I can see. The Swans have done well with their commercial revenue but it needs to hit far higher heights, which I think is a challenge the club can achieve but it’s no quick fix.

And yes as per the graph running costs are all included. It’s looking on paper difficult, but the clubs attempts at global branding may come to fruition.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

I'm still trying to get my head around this, but as with everything you see online it could be an interpretation and not necessarily fact.

I did see this which is interesting if we sell Vipotnik.

"Player sales are automatically amortized over three seasons under the new SCR rules, it's not optional, so a player sold for £10m, gets counted as £3.33m towards turnover going forward.

Player purchases are also capped at 3 years of amortization, though you can choose to amortize it over fewer years."

I also saw that there is a soft area between 85% and 115% where point penalties will not be introduced. Im not sure if this is correct. If it is, is it to try an protect clubs relegated from the Premier League who will have massive wages and greatly reduced income.

Amortisation is what every club does mate, pay for the player over the length of their contract at their new club. Agents get their fees dispersed the same way. The example for a player sale is correct, as we know no club receives the transfer in full. That soft area can go either way, it’s another ruling which doesn’t carry an exact punishment.

I’m assuming agreements for the likes of Inoussa etc before PSR ended will continue. In his case and others their contracts are over more than three years.

This is why the Swans are testing the new rules without punishment before they come in.

That’s how I see it anyway 😂

Thanks.

As the new rules cover next season and not last I take it PSR is still applicable for this current financial year up to June 30th. As the window opens on 15th a week on Monday I wonder if the clubs, ours and others, will be 'creative" if any sales are already in the pipeline.

It just seems to me after reading the article, that the bigger clubs will continue to prosper while the smaller clubs scrimp their way through, as has been the case for as long as I can remember.

Regarding Gorringe, it sounds like a similar situation that Coleman was probably in, sounds like he's working hard to keep all the balls in the air and that's impossible to sustain over any length of time, fair play to him though.

No doubt he is working hard, plenty of doubt that some people who read our reports connected to him have a brain cell amongst them.
