This "working family" thing 10:23 - Mar 19 with 1438 views | perchrockjack | Friends. Not really looking to lock horns with anyone but has there ever been a more overused ,trite, disingenuous phrase coined by LABOUR now to ideally associate a particular band of people with their Party. Granted its better than the loathesome "ordinary people" crap but really, is this how we are graded not just by them but Conservatives as well. Last time I checked, solicitors, accountants, surveyors, IT managers "worked" but sure a shite these people wont be seen as having "working" families. The general populace to most politicians are clearly seen a s Plebs. Had my weekly pint of beer with a few chums last night both of whom have good businesses and large houses with land etc ;both work like feck many hours, both send kids to private school and one has a Gym and small pool in the annexe and I asked them if they classed themselves as "working families" to which there was a resounding "yes". Wrong... because these families are not those that Labour are apparently interesting in. Both employ people and provide a livelihood for people to look after their families.

This "working family" thing on 13:57 - Mar 19 with 1327 views | libertine | since when is a hard working person an aspiration??? why is it good for a mother to go out to work and end up with less money than if she was on the dole why is this a good example of behaviour, surely it proves that you've been taken for a mug. You could be home when your child comes home from school and there when they leave in the morning hard working families

...and this is a key economic point. It should pay to work, at least part time, if it is practicable to do so. However a minimum wage job will not meet travel and child are costs more than receiving benefits. Equally as a taxpayer I am not overjoyed at subsidising a culture of 'work does not pay'. I write this in Malawi and as is the case of much of sub Saharan Africa if you don!t work you and your family will starve leading to malnutrition, malaria and worse. I am broadly socialist-probably my views are more like a German democratic socialism that rewards work and hard work in all forms. The problem is you can work hard for little whilst some in the financial sector earn what is really an obscene wage and in some cases minimum taxation. I pay nearly three times in tax than I earned when I started my career 25 years ago. I don't object to this, just want it used properly and everyone to pay their dues.
This "working family" thing on 16:14 - Mar 19 with 1270 views | Professor | And yes. I am part of a hard working family. Nothing wrong with that. I may use my mind more than my hands but it is hard work that can be taxing and stressful
This "working family" thing on 17:18 - Mar 19 with 1235 views | perchrockjack | It was meant to stimulate a discussion Bony. Also to highlight the appalling manner with which political parties treat us.. "working families" is of course to mean low/lower paid employees. I know several( technical) millionaires -there are many on the Wirral-and all WORK ,all have families, but these are NOT the people LABOUR refer. In short, they (Labour) especially ED, every brothers Cain
