I was a custody officer for three years in a very tricky area of Liverpool.
These were days before videod custody suites with staff to take care of prisoners and feed and water ready for charging /bailing/court appearance.
PAPER custody records and extremely basic cells .
One could get away with a lot but the chance of seeing things screwed up and being called back from holiday to explain some prisoner s injuries whilst in custody always put me off tw@tting prisoners unless they hit me first, which happened from time to time.
It was a dangerous job but sometimes a gratifying one seeing vicious people be processed and the job brought home in court.
NO prisoner should be brought tea biscuits croissants with strawberry conserve out of kindness but simply to comply with PACE and to process the prisoner as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Cell complexes were not as secure as they are now and I lost(but found soon after) a few prisoners and you had to watch your back ALWAYS. | |
