... "happily pours into tales of his times with bygone Welsh rockers. These include hazy nights with 70s band Man. “They had a house that structurally looked sound, but inside the walls were covered in Bacofoil,” he explains. “Which they used to hide hashish in, of course.”
Reminds me of hazy nights with members of Man in The Tenby ...!!

‪There was actually a bit more to the Man story he reckoned they put a lump of dope behind the foil and lit it and the room filled with fumes. 😂‬

It's Man's 50th Anniversary this year, it's sad so many have passed away since their early days as the Bystanders.

As Phil Ryan once memorably said between numbers, “we may not be the best band in the world but we sure smoke the most fûcking dope”.
The Swansea gigs were carnage.

Tell you what Philip he did a magnificent cover of Fixin’ to Die by Bukka White. His band is superb and his guitar player Justin Adams is magnificent.
Plant is a lovely bloke with a great voice - I’ll check that version out. I suspect that if Peter Grant was still managing him the writing credits may have been different...
Great story here about one of Bukka’s old guitars -

Anyone read 'Rhinos, Winos and Lunatics?' The part when they're all on acid climbing a mountain led by Martin Ace had me in absolute stitches 😂
Yep - all his books are highly recommended. Funny as fûck too. Martin was/is a lovely lunatic.
Mate went to a book signing and Deke looked very much the worse for wear - “Rough night eh,Deke?”. At which point another mate whispered “shut up you cûnt, he’s just had a fûcking stroke”.
😂😂😂

Martin Ace is still here 😠and still touring with Man for their 50th Anniversary tour, and played in Swansea in September.
They're playing @ The Borderline in London on 25th January 2019.
It's just sad that so many of the musicians that have played with them have now passed away ...
Deke Leonard
Mickey Jones
Clive "Clint" John
Phil Ryan
John Cipollina
Will Youatt
Ken Whaley
Mickey Jones' son George, now fronts a group ... Son of Man

Speaking of Martin Ace, reminds me of 15 or so years ago when he used to manage Purgatory on The Strand. He woke me up at half 10 or so one Saturday morning (my band was booked in for 1) saying,'You know the slot you had this afternoon? Well you don't anymore as my boy has it. You're now in tomorrow at 2. ' Absolute take it or leave it tone. As if he was doing us a favour. Organising band rehearsal was hard enough without last minute stuff like that. Couldn't help but like the guy though, charismatic f*cker
