The Planet Swans BBQ thread 10:52 - Apr 21 with 2186 views | MrSwerve | Two in two days for me Anyone got their BBQs lit this weekend? I’m a traditionalist myself, charcoal and a bog standard bbq. Anyone use a fancy gas one? Always thought that they wouldn’t taste the same as a proper one but never used one. Do people generally have a classic burger and sausages bbq or a posher marinated meats and fish etc? Yesterday I had marinated salmon, lamb etc and today I’m changing it up with sausages burgers baps etc. Bloody love a bbq and a beer.

The Planet Swans BBQ thread on 11:11 - Apr 21 with 1572 views | Cooperman | I have both options and wheel out whichever one is most appropriate for the occasion. The gas option is undoubtedly easier for the bigger parties. In terms of grub options you can’t beat a good burger and sausage combo but in an effort to adopt healthy eating I do regularly branch out into fish options. Jamie Oliver published a wonderful marinaded fish kebab recipe that I have slightly amended over time via the addition of some capers. https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/fish-recipes/the-best-marinated-fish-kebabs/

The Planet Swans BBQ thread on 11:14 - Apr 21 with 1568 views | exiledclaseboy | We had one for dinner yesterday (lunch if you’re posh). Fancy gas one for us. Much easier. Although it turned out I’d neglected to clean it in the autumn before covering it up for the winter. Took a fair bit of time and effort to get it pristine again. Lesson learned.

Yeah. Easier to cook properly too, without burning everything to buggery while it’s still raw inside.

Negligible difference in taste IMO. I’d say that there is less risk of burning with the gas option as you have total control over heat. I’ve ruined many a sausage over the years through charcoal cooking.

The Planet Swans BBQ thread on 11:42 - Apr 21 with 1531 views | Cooperman | Let’s hear your BBQ recipes then. Post your responses below. I’ll kick it off with the simplest of sauces. One large onion chopped and softened Add a clove of crushed garlic Two table spoons of good ketchup One tablespoon of vinegar Two tablespoons of Worcester sauce One tablespoon of brown sugar Very gentle simmer for 15 mins Serves 4 Add variations of above to taste if you prefer a sweeter option (sugar) or more tang (vinegar).

The Planet Swans BBQ thread on 12:00 - Apr 21 with 1502 views | MrSwerve | Ta for the info on gas bbqs. I never have issues with old school bbqs but can see how a gas one makes things easier. Call me a purist but I like lighting those coals up and stinking of smoke

I normally have bbqs around 4-5 on warm days...not sure what to do today. May have it slightly earlier and watch the first half on my iPad in the garden.
