Did goal line technology just fail? 18:50 - Jun 17 with 5447 viewsAce_Jack

The ball looked all the way over the line in the Villa game but no signal from the watch so no goal given.

Bizarre.

Absolutely.

Clearly over the line.

But even though Oliver's watch didn't vibrate, why didn't VAR step in?

Still flawed 🙈

You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

There’s no VAR guidance on goal line stuff as far as I’m aware. Don’t think VAR can step in on any issue it doesn’t have guidance for.

Actually I’m wrong, VAR could’ve awarded the goal.

I honestly believe this has brought the whole season into disrepute. What happens if villa stay up by a point?

The technology has failed, it is not accurate.

This sort of thing has happened, albeit very rarely, in cricket, where the hawk eye or whichever technology is being used, fails momentarily so they can’t track the direction of the ball.

I know I’m sounding extreme here but this has wound me up big time. What if villa stay up by one point now, does the team that go down instead have a legal case?

You can’t just turn on Hawkeye at half time like nothing has happened.

The logic Doesn’t stack up. Going a goal down doesn’t mean you lose. It becomes a different game. It might have galvanised them to win. It might even end to their detriment, if SU use it to motivate them. You just can’t tell. It’s like any error, but just more irritating as it’s the very thing that wasn’t supposed to be able to happen. Ridiculous really.

How many goals have been disallowed on paper thin offsides, how many goals have been given/disallowed via Hawkeye? The technology is not accurate.

As we know with our club. Jobs are at stake in a relegation battle, goals are massive and villa have been given a huge life line due to technology which is meant to be 100% accurate (Hawkeye that is)

To be fair, goal line tech has been 99.9% flawless...you’re always going to have one screw-up when there are hundreds and hundreds of shots cleared off the line per season.

A screw up indeed, but still have confidence in the system. Far more reliable than any of the VAR shenanigans (probably due to human input to be honest).

I’d wager it’s more likely something wasn’t turned on properly rather than the cameras failing to track the ball. There’s about 7 cameras pointed at each goal. If the sky cameras could see the goal clear as day on two angles, I’d be amazed if all of the goal line cameras failed to track the ball.

His watch said goal at half time.

Should villa have let them walk one in?
