And for the record I believe if mike Tyson had kept the cus team together Ie Jimmy Jacobs , bill Clayton and trainer Kevin Rooney he would have been a match for anyone and probably gone 50-0

Posibly 1462.Its a good debate innit.

Dempsey was an animal though and very very fit .Harder naturally than Tyson. The Long Count fight was unlucky for him as he had Tunney literally on the ropes. Ref would have had a hard time with those two.

Hearns a great shout and his Hagler fight stands today as the greatest round in boxing

Dempsey’s demolition job of Willard was absolutely brutal , I’ve had a debate many times with regards to the old and the new but I still believe the old boys were so much fitter and tougher than today’s breed , think that’s society in general mind

Perch v Prosser.

It would be a sellout and it would go the full 12.

Ali beats everyone.
Tyson beats everyone else.

Lennox most under rated ?

Best fighter from uk ?
Joe Calzaghe surely ?

McGuigan was a hell of a fighter.

Beware of the Risen People

Cant believe no ones mentioned Harry Greb . A man even Dempsey was wary of .A guy who was the martini man he 'd fight anyone any time any where. Tragically died in the operating theatre.Stanley Ketchell _ wild man who ko'd a bouncer when he was 15. Another hobo bar room brawler who ended up shot in the back after being undisputed middleweight world champ. 2 great old school fighters.

Eddie.

That poster was killed off some time ago so don't harken back to it ,if you don't mond,as it simply means more hate/bitterness.

Dempsey was the first to really toughen his skin by dipping them into a cocktail of sorts.

He was fighting to survive at 14 in bars and would take on anyone. Famously,he took on one big guy for a bet whom he put into unconciousnes and they wouldnt pay up until he fought his older and bigger brother. He did and knocked him out too. They paid up.

Tyson worked on intimidation and bullying and was good at it.That wouldnt have worked with JD-the first real boxing superstar who became as famous when he retired as when he was boxing. He died a legend.

Dempsey although seen as the arch type brawler used a lot of science in his techniques .The shoulder roll was first used to great effect by him also the trigger step where you fall into the punch using the kinetic energy of motion. He also landed his punches in the vertical position not horizontal , aiming for a 3 knuckle landing. He also used to harden his hands punching warm asphalt . He ko'd 2 would be muggers in NewYork on his way to the Ali frasier fight .He was 76 at the time.!

Good chum if mine boxed and his coach dined at Dempseys restaurant in NY.

Dempsey was on site and heard the accents and said,Hey Limey, buy me a drink ...? He did and the great man spent 5 mins with him.He never forgot that. Jack often helped those on the street who were destitute.

What a guy to try to mug,,!

Willard ended up with a broken nose , fractured cheekbone , fractured eye socket and broken ribs. Dempsey was the classic hungry fighter but winning the title and a change in lifestyle took the edge off him a bit . When he fought Tunney it wasn't the same Dempsey who had destroyed Willard .Take a look at Harry Greb's record- unbelievable . A guy who never trained yet was fantastically fit , had a party lifestyle at 100 mph and nearly 300 fights all told !

Not sure how much you are into your boxing history but I read a decent book some time ago about a English man by the name of Jem Mace he is credited with bringing gloved boxing Mainstream and also whilst touring he discovered Bob Fitzsimmons
