Bristol zoo to close 21:48 - Nov 27 with 614 viewsbritferry

Bristol Zoo has announced it will relocate from its current site to the outskirts of the city to "safeguard its future".

The site in Clifton will be sold, and the zoo will move to its Wild Place Project site, near junction 17 of the M5 in South Gloucestershire.

The zoo has been at Clifton since it began in 1836.

Bosses said the site will stay open until late 2022, and the new zoo would open in early 2024.

I remember a couple of skool trips there, they'll get some good money for the land there on Clifton Downs though

They are currently proposing only to build house on areas within the zoo that currently have buildings on. The gardens will be kept and affordable housing will be included.

It remains to be seen if planning departments and developers will agree with these noble aims.

Makes sense economically and more so from the animal welfare and conservation view. Chester,
Which has more space has made great strides with larger and better enclosures. The new walk through lemur exhibit is great. Not done that for the big cats though.

Chester Zoo is excellent.

There are lots of others that do great work too, Bristol is good and I am also a big fan of Folly Farm in Pembs. They do their bit to support the bigger zoo’s and they mix it up with farm animals and other attractions. It’s a great way to get kids interested in animals and conservation.
