Both Frank Donovan and Phil Holme were included in GB Olympic squads prior to signing for the Swans.

Frank Donovan skippered the Pembroke Borough side that had gained promotion at the end of season 1947/48. His outstanding form had seen him capped for the Wales Amateur side against England in January 1948 and 1949, and against England and Scotland in 1950, also being included in the 1948 Great Britain Olympic squad managed by Sir Matt Busby after being invited to training sessions at Old Trafford with a view to possible selection for the Great Britain Olympic squad. Frank played in 2 trials for the Olympic squad, one at Hampden Park, and was selected as one of 3 Welshmen in the squad, the 2 others being Julian Smith and Gwyn Mainwaring. After his selection in the GB squad the following months saw Frank involved in a training camp in Berkshire and various friendly matches including games against Sweden and India. After taking part in the opening ceremony at Wembley, Frank had to sit out the first round 4-3 win over Holland at Highbury due to injury. He was back for the quarter final against France at Craven Cottage, setting up the only goal of the game to book a semi-final spot for the Great Britain team against Yugoslavia at Wembley with Frank scoring the equaliser. Sadly the Yugoslavs went on to win 3-1. But each member of the Great Britain squad was presented with a Bronze Medal, with Frank returning to a hero’s welcome in Pembroke Dock.
In May 1950 he signed for the Swans, made 15 first team appearances, scoring 2 goals before returning to Pembroke at the end of the season.

Phil Holme signed for the Swans in June 1971 after making a name for himself as a goal scorer for Bridgend Town in the Welsh League, after earlier being on the books of Cardiff City as an amateur. Capped at amateur level by Wales on eight occasions, the first in season 1968/69 against Ireland and then Scotland, Phil was also a member of the 1968 Great Britain Olympic squad.

Olympics have passed its sell by date. I wish them all the worst. They make money by making the taxpayer foot the bill and take all the risk. Most of the past Olympics were seriiously crocked. Some whole nations were cheating USSR , East Germany and branches of USA athletics were convicted.

West ham can buy any Swansea player living of UK Government subsidies. THe UKbacked London bid all the way but decline to suport a previous Manchester bid as a matter of principle.

Wise sage since Toshack era

Every eastern Bloc medal was tainted to some degree.
In the case of east Germany EVERY medal without exception.

The state controlled all, everyone to a degree by which we have no idea

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Ideally the world should be democratic and leaders accountable. Wherever the peole have been asked if they want to make a bid for this jamoboree the people say no. It happened in Germany and Canada I recall.

The BBC trumpetted London 2012 but it was crooked as hell. The West Ham club the big beneficaires of the desperation not to leave any white elephant structures.

Lord Coe sold the idea as sustainable with a mecano stadium for 70,000 reduced in size after the games to 25,000 and used by Leyton Orient. However the politican got involved and the IOC wanted a permanent stadium with track. This mean another £270m for a roof to go on all from the taxpayer. Every summer they try to bring games there to reduce the huge losses.
