Well done Wales 07:24 - Jun 27 with 947 viewstrampie

I think Wales did well overall, everything was stacked against Wales, travelling, fixtures, lack of fans, ref decisions etc, I didn't think Wales was going to get a point or score a goal in the Euro finals group stage so to qualify for the knockout stages exceeded my expectations, well done Wales.

Considering we had more players outside their nations top league than all other 15 knock out qualifiers combined I’d agree with you - my concern is this might be our 1958 moment in the Euros, let’s hope it’s not another 50 years+ before we get another go!

Let’s hope we have learnt that lumping a ball up to a lanky centre forward is not the way to play football in the 21st century.

I generally agree with the OP, apart from ref decisions. From memory there was only one really bad decision against us, that was not giving the foul on Moore that led directly to a goal. Otherwise I thought things were pretty good.

Yes we suffered with venues and travelling, yes our fans didn't have it easy but we can't put our loss to Denmark down to anything other than getting beaten by the better team. If the ref had given the foul on Moore, we'd still have lost.

All in all we did better than most expected, other teams had it easier, very noticeably England with all those "home" games but maybe we shouldn't forget we are Wales, the second smallest team at the Euros with the corresponding smaller pool of talent to choose from. We were comfortably beaten by an Italian second team, the win being far easier than the scoreline suggests.

There's nothing to be angry at even if there's not a huge amount to celebrate.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I think Page got too cocky. In the two games Wales played 4 at the back they were seriously second best. Switzerland and Denmark. Denmark 'audited' the Welsh system and found a lot of cracks.

Wales under Coleman got success with 5 at the back and defending for their lives. Wales against Denmark initially went on the front foot with some sucess but after 10 minuites our defensive limitations were emphatically exposed.

Coleman learned this with a 6-1 thrashing in Serbia. Mike Smith 0-5 away at Georgia. Hughes 0-3 Tunisia. Gould 1-7 v Netherlands. Toshack 1-5 Slovakia.

Wise sage since Toshack era

Yes, that was frustrating to watch. Moore is a bit of a calamity with referees as well.

Totally outplayed by Italy and Denmark, mostly outplayed by Switzerland. One decent performance against possibly the worst team in the competition isn't all that impressive.

A big step back from 2016. On the pitch and in the technical area. Question is where to go from here. Defensively there's plenty of talent coming through (largely courtesy of the Swans academy) but very little going forward.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Wales is a small country and have done really well not only to qualify for the finals but to make the knockout stages of the Euro finals, the embarrassment is you thinking they haven't done well.

For a caretaker manager who accomplished nothing of note with the u21s Page has done alright. Out of his depth tactically which showed in 3 out of the 4 games but we didn't underperform by getting to the knockouts. If only we'd been able to play Finland or Russia rather than an energised Denmark. Didn't exactly batter Northern Ireland in 2016.

We need the manager situation sorted asap, but unless there's a conviction Giggs still has a contract until after the World Cup. A bit of tactical nous would go a long way with the players at our disposal. The days of defending for our lives and giving Bale the ball are long gone as a ticket to success.

There is mileage in what you've said about the traveling, fixtures, refs but we were off the pace in a number of our games. We could easily have lost to Switzerland, should have smashed a Turkey, got off lightly against the Italians and were hammered on Saturday. The ref wasn’t great, but we were completely outgunned and outthought.
The Danes “have our number” and I feared result like this when it became clear who we were playing. We need to regroup and make changes for the future, we’re in Group A of the Nations League and if we don’t get it sorted we’ll have a few results like last Saturday.

Not many outside of Wales would have backed us to get through the group. I think we were the only team seeded fourth in their group to reach the knockout stages.

Hard to defend the performance against Denmark. We didn’t show up.

I think 2016 and maybe our series of 1-0s in the nations league have seriously warped some peoples expectations.

Those that support Copper's 'achievements' with us have to agree that Page did a fantastic job to get Wales to the last 16 with that team and that draw.

Others might say he should have done better with the options he had.

Me, having seen the other teams, I think it was par. The end was an embarrassment to mirror our play off final.

Getting to the finals - outstanding
Getting out the group - outstanding

But, in truth, Denmark bossed us too easily.
I think we lacked the nous on and off the pitch to respond.
I think 5 at the back was an option, but in reality Joey Allen and Morrell could not get control at any point in the game.
We looked tired and all the travelling clearly did not help our prep.

Plenty to build on though, cos a young squad.
Enjoy Bale and Rambo while we can.
These are great days for welsh football.
