The word is commonly used these days to signify someone who is a bit of an extremist..feminazi for example.

Nobody on here is really comparing anybody to the Nazi's of WW2. I think some people are just a bit too sensitive.

The internet eh,

Oooh I don’t know, there are some political psychos out there, that truly convince themselves of an alternate reality.

There is one particularly deranged poster on the other site that was wishing death on posters over here for wanting the Republicans to win the US elections not so long ago. Something to do with being fascists or something. AceyJack? Utterly bonkers bloke. He came over here for a while before being made to explain some of the words he was parroting - obviously he couldn’t. Not been seen since.

Whenever someone is being intentionally provocative using such words, ask them for specifics. It works every time.

This isn't about an alternate reality, Republicans or the USA elections, this about use of the word Nazi. If you have a SPECIFIC opinion about the use of the word Nazi it would be more helpful than turning another thread towards the USA elections.

Is calling somebody a Lord Haw Haw calling them a Nazi or calling them a propagandist? Maybe somebody should say " you're like a Lord Haw haw, being a propagandist for (insert who or what they support) rather than cause someone to think you're accusing them of being a genuine Nazi?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Not sure I’m with you.

They were calling the posters here Nazis and fascists. This site is still called planet stormfront on there (and planet Nazi)… as I’m sure you are aware. It wasn’t a hard point to follow.

My post was talking about the misappropriation of terms, intentionally, in order to provoke or indeed to put the opposition to your view in a convenient box so you don’t have to explore the weaknesses of your own view.

It had nothing to do with the US Elections, other than giving the context that the terms being rife around that time. Read my post again, and breathe.

Spits in the face of all the people who have suffered it.

Which displays a certain intelligence. It hasn’t been tolerated since the site ownership changed. And any extremism and I mean from both sides of the spectrum have found themselves banned. We still have our eyes on a few folk, I’m over in Wales next month 😉

That's one point of view. I can't remember if I ever used such a term (feninazi or similar) but I might have done. I've those things used on here and quite frequently elsewhere.

Rather than Haw Haw I think I'd probably say apologist or propagandist but we're all different.

I'm not sure anything can water down what the real Nazi's did. Those atrocities echo through history. The fact that going on 80 years later they are still making so much tv about WW2, about what the Nazi's did (not just the Holocaust, there are many programmes about their engineering achievements) and in some cases these programmes even seem to be lauding such achievements, it doesn't make the Holocaust any less disgusting. Some nazi references (Quisling) seem acceptable but Lord Haw Haw caused a stir for one. Did anyone actually call him nazi? I didn't see it.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I was questioning more the use of the word “lots” as opposed to the notion of there being any. Because I disagree entirely with that.

There may be a few smattered about the place, just as there may be a few that believe in aliens living amongst us and flat earthers. But the use of the word “lots” is clearly misleading. You could live 50 years in the U.K. and never cross paths with one.

It’s more a Eastern European thing where you could probably accurately use the word “lots”. They are decades behind when it comes to civilised society, even parts of Spain as you may well know have some strides to make.

The U.K. is an open minded and multi cultural haven in comparison.

You know, I do think some people are over sensitive, there has always been banter and use of reference words but maybe we should just all agree not to suggest anyone is any type of Nazi?

For the record, if I ever call someone a "Haw Haw" I am not suggesting they are a Nazi but simply a propagandist though I shall try to avoid the phrase.

What about calling someone a "Quisling"?

How many do you deem as “loads”?

Is 5,000 in a country with a population of 328 million deemed as loads, for example?

What about grammar nazis? That used to be a thing on here but if it’s not allowed it’s not allowed and I wouldn’t feel the need to push back on it ……. but……. if someone on here was to call someone a grammar nazi there is zero insinuation that they are calling a person an actual nazi. Same when Brynny likened Resloven to Haw Haw - there was no political connotation, just a poke at someone he believes to be a propagandist. I understand the need to be respectful and inclusive but we shouldn’t be getting too excited by the use of something like ‘Lord Haw Haw’ when the context is obviously got nothing to do with nazis.

Ah Grammar N.....POLICE, that was Warwicks thing wasn't it? Don't put a colon out of place or construct a sentence poorly!

We find ourselves largely in agreement on this, it's the context that counts. We're not allowed to say some things anymore though because people get upset. The irony here is, I always used to be the first one to complain about all the mindless abuse this site displayed every day! I suppose I could feel a bit sheepish about it.

Looking at the OP through something of a metaphysical lens you have to wonder who it is could possibly be put on trial? The centenarian that may be wheeled into the dock perhaps bears a very slight physical resemblance to the eighteen-year-old, indoctrinated fanatic that was but after the passage of eighty-odd years that boy has long since ceased to exist.

That’s not to downplay for one second the enormity of the crimes committed during the second war rather to question our notions around justice and punishment.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

I didn't suggest you did.

But I was trying to get a feeling of the numbers behind your view that there are ''lots''. You put 5000 Nazi's on a train, you could say there are lots of them on that train.

But 5000 in among a population of 328 million and its no longer ''lots'', they become a distinct rarity.
