Swansea City Under-23s travel to London to face Charlton Athletic in the Professional Development League on Monday (1pm kick-off).

The Swans go into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw against category one side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League Cup.

Kris O’Leary’s side have had a strong start to 2022, having lost just one of their five games so far this year, suffering defeat in their league fixture against Milwall.

The young Swans currently sit eighth in the Professional Development League, but a win at Charlton could propel them as high as sixth.

Charlton have also had a strong start to 2022, having won three of their four games so far, drawing 1-1 with Watford in their other outing.

In their previous game, the Addicks picked up three points at home to QPR with a 3-1 win.

Charlton currently sit fourth in the Professional Development League, just three points behind second placed Ipswich.

Kris O'Leary
Swansea City U23s coach Kris O’Leary: “It’s a game just three days after our last one, I’ve reiterated to the players and the staff that you don’t get this at development football often and it’s perfect.

“If you ever wanted to set yourself up for first team football, especially in the Championship, this is exactly what it’s like, the Championship is relentless, it’s brilliant for them.

“It’s good for the players learning as well, they get to understand about recovery, what’s good for them and what isn’t good for them.

“We won’t change, it’s taken a while to get to where we are with a new group of players from the summer, but we know what we’re about.

“We won’t be asking the players to do anything different on the ball, maybe slight tweaks in position and who’s on.

“But we will continue to ask the players to play from the back and through the thirds, it’s the principles of what we do as a club and that won’t change.

“We are ready to go again, there may be a few changes because there were some tired bodies after the Wolves game”

Previous meeting
The two sides last met earlier this season in November, with the Addicks coming out on top with a 3-1 win.

Morgan Whittaker scored the only goal for the Swans, but two goals for Dylan Gavin and an incredible free-kick from Aaron Henry earned the visitors all three points.

Swansea let in a late equaliser as seems to be their way at the moment. Making good strides to be fair. One or two weak links in there that need pruning for the overall good.

They seem to play in Dartford which is a fair way from Charlton along the south bank of the Thames. Their training ground is in Eltham which is not far south of Charlton about 1 mile.

Swansea City Under-23s had victory snatched away from them as title-chasing Charlton Athletic netted a last-gasp equaliser at Dartford.

Jaden Forrester put the Swans ahead in the first half and the Swans soaked up a lot of Addicks pressure for the majority of the game, only for a 90th minute Addicks equaliser to deny them a three-point haul.

The Swans faced a Charlton side that included January acquisitions Juan Castillo and Nile John, who are set to feature for their first team.

The two sides looked to play in similar styles, with the teams looking to maintain possession and build from the back.

The first chance of the game fell to Charlton, Hady Ghandour firing just past the post from the edge of the box.

However, Forrester would give the Swans the lead. Scott Butler’s chipped through ball was inadvertently headed on by a Charlton defender, allowing Forrester to break and slide a low effort past the goalkeeper for his sixth goal in seven games.

Forrester almost had a second 16 minutes later, Cameron Congreve played a fantastic ball through for the forward who knocked the ball around the goalkeeper, but defender Harris O’Connor recovered to clear before he could finish.

Ghandour broke through for the Addicks late in the first half, but a superb last ditch challenge from Butler prevented the defender's shot finding the net.

Juan Castillo, who joined the hosts from Chelsea on loan in January, had the chance to level before the break, but a fantastic save from Jamie Searle ensured the Swans took their 1-0 lead into the interval.

Ben Lloyd had the chance to double the Swans lead shortly after the resumption, Sam Leverett finding the midfielder on the edge of the box, but his low effort was dragged wide of the post.

Ghandour had another chance for the Addicks after they broke from a Swansea corner, but his strike hit the top of the crossbar.

Joel Cotterill came close with two minutes to go, his superb dribble saw him break through the Charlton defence, but he poked his effort just wide of the goal.

And the hosts went straight up the other end to level, with Euan Williams converting a cross from Castillo in the 90th minute.

Forrester let his man go for the equaliser and was hauled off by O'Leary by the looks of it straight afterwards. The guy is scoring goals but doing little else to help his mates from what I have seen.

KO'L picked up on the Forrester issue of physicality and work rate. He really has to work on this as there is a good player in there.

Big Centre physical forwards are a rare as hen's teeth.
