70 years as Queen yes but she spends a lot of time on the toilet apparently! Hey Tummer, have you ever heard of British toilet humour It is a great innings and even though I am anti monarchy the Queen has earned respect, shame about her family.

Clement Attlee was PM and called an election early because the Government had a slim majority and he didn't want the King to come home to a change of administration after his proposed Commonwealth tour in 1952. What a difference to the modern ones.

I reckon the Queen would happily go on a tour f she could come back to a different government, even better, a whole new set f politicians.

I’m guessing the current incumbent of said title is Louis the 14th?

Ahh I was carrying on with your sun pun because he was the sun king. “Solar(ge) and bright”, etc. Never mind. Another thing about Louis the 14th was he thought the world revolved around him. [Post edited 3 Feb 2022 21:27]

6/2/52 just started school. 11am called to emergency assembly in main school hall to be told the King had died, at that age didn't mean a lot to us kids. In June 53 we got our first TV for the Coronation 12inch Bush that was as big as a house all the neighbours came round to sit in the "posh" room curtains drawn to watch it. Most of us kids went out and played football!!!

You beat me to it. I'm more of a moon myself, orbiting around the rest of you looking in from the outside. On another post....never seen a coronation, I don't think it's odd, I think it'd be better if we never saw another one!

Yes. The Queen is and has been revered by many for generations but the monarchy can not go on ad infinitum (hope that's not treason). Is it better to scale it down radically now and get rid of the pomp? I speak as a loyal but disillusioned servant of HM.

Charles apparently aims to slim it down. Personally,I d abolish it ;it can be done It's purely personal. I think our monarchy perpetuates class

I think thats what put Markles nose out, her kids won't be getting titles when Charles becomes King and yet, Kate's already have them Charles must have had a quiet word in his shell-like before the wedding or birth of Archie

Not all monarchies have been removed by revolution. I would bin the House of Lords and scrap the "honours" system ,a we know it,starting with the grotesque Sir/Lady drivel.
