Swansea City has donated more than 500 meals to the people who need them most across the region.
The food — which had originally been prepared for Tuesday’s postponed fixture at the Swansea.com Stadium against AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday evening — has been received by four charities who support homeless people in the city.
Food was received by Matt’s Café, Zac’s Place and The Wallich, as well as St Mary’s Church.
Matt’s Café is part of The Real Junk Food (TRJF) Project, a network of national and international cafes with one central objective, to intercept food waste destined for landfill and use it to feed people who need it, on a pay as you feel basis.
The Wallich aims to get homeless people off the street and into a safer environment, while Zac’s Place also offers food to those in need.
In total, over 500 portions of food were delivered across the four sites.
“As soon as Tuesday’s game against Bournemouth was postponed we contacted several local charities where the food could go to a good home,” said Swansea City chief executive Julian Winter.
“We are a club that cares about the community we serve and I’d like to thank the staff here who acted quickly to ensure the food went to several superb charities locally.
“All four charities do brilliant work on a daily basis all year round and we are glad that we could play a part in ensuring that those who needed the food most were able to receive it.” |  |
