He was distinctly average as a full back in a 442 and absolute garbage as a wing back but that wasn't his fault, he should never have been played there.

Yeh we all have them, and I'm not talking about opinions either 
Thing is, Lati came here as a CB who could cover full back, how often did he play CB or FB?
He doesn't have the pace for wing back and he cannot cross either. He had a few decent games but was never the player that Russ claimed he was. Our previous manager mismanaged several of our squad repeatedly. Cabango, Lati, Wolf and yes, Fisher too, he may make a reasonable keeper but he's no sweeper keeper. | | | |

I think we all know he isnt a wing back after seeing him turned inside out over and over again but he was more than adequate at full back with no pressure at covering alot of space when playing wing back.
We had darling, wood and cabango for centre backs and manning at left back, with naughton covering both full back positions.
When he did play full back for the last 6 games of the season he looked comfortable as there was not a much pressure as playing as a wingback. | | | |

Part of why Martin left as a perceived lack of sport with regard to this player. Martin said give him more money and the club made a decision he was not worth it and it was better to replace him. Quite shrewdly someone was aware there was £500k cheque pending.
Winter was probably already thinking he was on his way. So who actually told Winter then Coleman that it was better to let Joel move on in contradiction to Martin's wishes. They must have influence to over ride the manager possibly leading to this departure.
Dark suits in dark place or senior club men and women always around the place but not keen to take on big responsibilities. People at the club for decades I expect. |  |

That's fair enough. Even the best managers can make bad signings though, we'll wait and see.
PS, I don't think its mean to say lati was garbage at wing back. He was only doing as he was told, the person culpable for him being there is responsible and it's him that deserves the flak.
I hope lati gets to play in his favoured position now so we can see how capable he is. Mind you, I also hope if he plays against us he has a stinker....and doesn't score...in our net anyway  | | | |

I do think the way Martin asked the wingbacks to play really made them all struggle to do what he asked and as a consequence made them look a lot worse that some of them were.
If they dropped back we would have five at the back, 7 when the defensive midfielders dropped back to play tippy tappy at the back and if pressing forward out wide we'd have 5 up front in a line and 5 at the back with oceans of room in the middle at times for the opposition to exploit,not one swansea player dared to risk breaking those lines until everyone had slowly edged forward en masses then again leaving oceans of space behind our back line for the opposition again to exploit.
Basically making not only the wingbacks look clueless but the rest of the defensive set up, no wonder Martin keeped changing his three central defenders whether it be Brandon, Cabango, Manning, Naughton, then Wood and Darling nothing worked until he went four at the back which eventually helped Latibeaudie fit comfortably into the teams selected. | | | |
