cholesterol comes in two parts, onside is diet related the other is genetics, you can help the onside by eating healthy, but not a lot you can do about the genetic side, you are what you are. I need a lifestyle change by eating healthy, but I like what I eat and not sure I'd like the alternatives, I've done plenty of diet fads in past, they just don't last, so I've no idea on how to change now.

Best taken at night. Why is it best to take rosuvastatin at night? You can take rosuvastatin at any time of the day. But healthcare providers often prefer that you take statins before bedtime. This is because statins interfere with the process of making cholesterol in your liver. This process happens at night.

Thanks for the appraisal, but I'm only going from my experience R and from what the Doc told me, I was referred to a type of cholesterol clinic years ago at Morriston Hospital and adhered to what I was advised and did well and the consultant was pleased with my efforts and my tests all came back positively, but those efforts soon regressed unfortunately. Take the advice off the Doctor R, he'll have most if not all the basis covered

My drug leaflet says, "You can take it at any time of the day, with or without food. Try to take it at the same time every day to help you to remember it"

You do whatever suits you or what the doctor has advised. I was told many years ago that it was better to take them before bedtime and that's what I have done ever since. I copied and pasted this from what I googled. "You can take rosuvastatin at any time of the day. But healthcare providers often prefer that you take statins before bedtime. There is no magic pill. Don't dismiss the lifestyle change before you tried it. I was the same as you but I pushed through with it and gave it a go. I wouldn't have it any other way now
| Statins .Yes or No on 06:23 - Nov 10 with 1356 views | mangohilljack | As for statins each to their own but a massive NO for me, I've heard a lot of not so good things about them. that said it's pretty obvious I'm not a fan of big Pharma I prefer natural remedies (of which there are plenty out there) and I doubt very much you give two hoots about my thoughts, but I thought I'd share them anyway | | | |

No, please, if you have natural remedies I can use instead of Statins I'd be interested. I try to eat more healthily but it seems the largest part of my problem is genetic. My paternal family have massive problems with blood pressure and cholesterol and so strokes and heart attacks. My father was on statins from when they first cae out and he was the first one in memory who lived past 85. Both his younger brothers died years before, his dad was 59 when a heart attack got him in the mid 70's. If you know of something that would help I'd be happy to see it.

Without knowing a lot about your background, what I found helped me when I wasn't as health conscious as I am now and had high cholesterol and hyper tension was Regular exercise - no excuses ....make the required time. A very important one but often disregarded is 7-9 hours sleep a night - just as important as exercise and diet. manage your stress levels - your nervous system is stimulated and will produce large amounts of stress hormones that have vasoconstricting effect (narrowing of the blood vessels and will further increase blood pressure. An obvious one is cutting down on salt and salty foods, citrus fruits and turmeric will do you good and omega 3 fatty acids - salmon swordfish or fish oil supplements will decrease inflammation in the body and increase cardiovascular health, cut down on saturated fats like bacon, butter processed oil and other fatty meats. Black pepper and cayenne pepper are really good for heart health and better management of cholestrol levels - admittedly difficult to consume in the doses required so maybe look for some highly concentrated piperine extract. And the best way I have found for alkalising my body is intermittent fasting, not easy to start doing but once you feel the benefits it becomes a lot easier. There are some decent supplements out there also that can help so maybe make an appointment with a good naturopath might be a good idea [Post edited 10 Nov 2023 9:37]

Thank you, I do getbregular exercise besides work, walking the dog and I try to walk to a shop instead of drive the 5-600 yards. I'm a very regular 7 hour sleeper, asleep by 21.30 and up at 5am. I'm good at the stress management too, I learned that when I had other health problems. I learned to read the signs and the triggers. The rest is hit and miss because I do like fatty meats, curries and chillies too mind with lots of black pepper, cayenne and fish is a regular meal.

Great advice and much appreciated, I'm currently off work with knee cartilage problems, was told that I had strained the ligaments, but saw a physio today who told me its a cartilage problem although I'm relieved that its not ligament related, she also side I need much more exercise which will need motivation, which I struggle with, as I said I love my food and yet to be convinced that healthy food will satisfy me, plus I like a beer or three on a weekend. What I do know is that I need to change cause my ability to do the job I do won't be possible with my knees the way they are. Regarding sleep, its been years and years since I've slept a solid 5 yrs, it just doesn't happen, meaning that 7/9 hrs ain't gonna happen. [Post edited 10 Nov 2023 21:20]

I am happy to go by the information contained in the leaflet that comes with the DRUG which is approved by the body that issues the licence to prescribe the drug.
