Earnie's history is quite interesting . His father was a British national an engineer and manager of a gold mine in Zambia. His mother was Zambian and a football player.

His father died in Africa and his mam brought the family to Bedwas. His father is described as "English born". Earnie presumably qualified for Wales in his 5 years schooling.

He was a tremendous goalscorer but I never liked watching his all round game holdup play etc was not great. He lacked discipline insisting on doing the somersaults when expressly asked not to by his coaches.

He's the only player to have scored a hat-trick in the Premier League, all three divisions of the English Football League, the League Cup, the FA Cup, and for his country in an international match.

Father English, must be his parents who had a Welsh link that enabled Gould to call him up for our country.
