Snooker
at 11:16 5 Aug 2020

I used to live snooker, had something of a misspent youth!

I've tried watching it but I just don't have the patience anymore. I'd still play though, still enjoy a game even if I can't get my leg on the table anymore!

Maybe I just chose a boring match, should've tuned in for the O'Sullivan game, a record breaker wasn't it?

The link reads that people were making accusations of SEXUAL harrasment and assault so in my book, scumbags.

The link wasn't there to minimalise anything, purely to point out that it's not just tories who can be scumbags. It wasn't myself who tried to score political points by saying only tories are scum.

FAO Kilk, if you can't be Welsh and vote Tory how come so many Welsh seats turned blue at the last GE?

OK, so what about alcohol?

When I was young it was all about football. Playing or watching. I dabbled with motorbikes for a few weeks (a friend had one) but it didn't last.

You can't go paperless for official government stuff. Your council tax, DWP etc all comes in twice as much paper as is needed and us council tax and tax payers foot the bill for both the printing and delivering of as well as the disposal of twice as much paper as is needed.

Other nations that have 2 languages, I wonder (because I do not know) if they send out correspondence to absolutely everybody in the two or more langfuages they use? Or do they ask you to choose your medium? I also wonder if any bilngual (or more than bi) nation force such a minority language on people who can't understand it. As a percentage 13.4 claim to be 100% fluent with 66.1 claiming absolutely no capability to speak or understand Welsh.
So why we all have to get bilingual letters from the councils and government is beyond me.

If you would really be happy to do away with Englsih tourism at such a massive cost (assuming Lisa's numbers are correct) then she's right about you. Why do you think that going indy would suddenly make 1000's of tourists from across the world head here. England gets many more international tourists than us. A lot of them never come to Wales even though they could literally be an hours drive away. Why would they do a 5/6/7 hour flight to somewhere they wouldn't drive to in an hour? So to be rid of the English you'd cut off a major financial gain, but no, you don't hate the English do you.

Go on Kilk, do the DNA test, I'd love to know how Anglo you actually are!

Alcohol does more damage than drugs though. Every single day it causes accidents, it causes family brreak ups, it causes run ins with the police, it causes violence.

Maybe we should ban alcohol and have ero tolerance towards that?

When I was young it wasn't my spliff smoking friends who got into fights, it was those who drank more alcohol.

A lot of burglaries happen because of drugs, they want their fix and sreal to get the funds. Until we eliminate or control drugs that won't change.

The point about going cashless seems quite true to me. You wouldn't see drug dealers carrying a contactless machine! Maybe that is the best answer.

So the second lockdown
at 10:26 5 Aug 2020

The death toll of covid is bad enough, wait until people start dying because they couldn't see a specialist or get treatment or operations during all this.

You can't even see a GP. I rang my GP because a longstanding problem had gotten worse. He told me to try ringing the physio hub although they would only speak to me, not doing face to face appointments (though they are now I believe) so after being told to do some exercises and having explained I was in too much pain to do said exercises I was told to ring my GP, who said ring the physio hub.....maybe I'll try again because my neighbour told me he had an appointment there yesterday.

With covid cases now so low, I believe in Morriston there are only 2 confirmed cases and 11 suspected, surely the specialists can start seeing patients again? I'm all for being cautious but we still have the Nightingale units running don't we? Surely they have the capability to do at least some face to face specialist appointments?

At least those young men are having their sentence reviewed, maybe they'll get longer.

I don't like the way the world is going either. We have Russia, China, the USA and the EU all banging their drums. NATO looks susceptible, the USA and the EU are banging their heads together and it may not end well.

I love my son to bits but I don't like the world he's growing into. I honestly think it's less safe now than it ever was. The police are retreating, the rules are softening, international arguments are getting more vociferous. I fear for his future.

If globalisation is the problem, per se, how is brexit a bad thing?

This country needs to be more self sufficient, we need shorter supply chains. The pandemic has shown that in such events (and lets face it, therr have been quite a few bad events internationally speaking this lat 20 years) we need to be able to look after ourselves. Instead of importing so much stuff we need to be producing it and so be able to protect ourselves if the world hits a snag.
Of course we can't produce absolutely everything but we can be more self sufficient for food and medicines to start with. When your supply chain stretches all the way to China the chances of problems arising multiply. Of course we want to trade with the rest of the world but we need the capability to look after ourselves when needs be.

Bournemouth
at 12:26 4 Aug 2020

I tend to think that any club not regularly in the top 6/7 is fighting relegation. Even Everton have had their bad seasons. The EPL is set up for the favoured few, the rest are fodder. Until the Sheikh took over Manchester City were pretty crap and he's spent over 1 billion on them.
Bournemouth's owner is rich by our standards but a pauper in football terms, about 100 million net worth I think. If you aint a billionaire you have little chance. Mansour is worth around 22 billion, Henry about 3b I think, plus of course much bigger stadia and worldwide fan bases do help.

Will Brentford last long if they go up, an 18k stadium and while he has been quite clever, how much money does Benham have?

I watched the Lucy Worsley programme about American history and it's greatest fibs. Turns out Ol Abe Lincoln wasn't really the great emancipator that I was taught about in school. His anto slavery drive was only against the confederate states to destabilise their economies.

So much we were taught in school that is false, is it the rich and powerful presenting the history they want us to see it because the truth hurts them?

The histories we have been taught are full of lies or, at the very least, misinterpretations. Or, are the histories we're being shown now the lies because the narrative they want us to follow has changed? Who knows! The truth is long since lost.

That's reflected in Trump too, he's told so many lies he wouldn't know the truth if it bit him. Bojo isn't far behind except for some reason I feel like Bojo cares a little bit more about how history will view him. He wants to be seen in a good light. I could be wrong.

Trump doesn't want the election delayed for any reason other than he's worried he's losing, or so I think. If Trump loses to Biden it'll be just as damning an indictment as Corbyn losing to Bojo, from what I've read.

No one can see the future. It's entirely possible that staying in the EU would have been very bad for us.

Yes the costs may rise but there's no reason why efficiency has to drop, it's just adjusting to new rules and routines.

On the other hand, what if, just WHAT IF costs actually dropped in the future? What if (because the pandemic had showed the need) we became more self sufficient as a country and that caused costs to drop as imports dropped? Improbable or unlikely you may say, but possible.

Legalising would be the start of treatment. We need help centre where the drugs are bought, where clean needles are supplied, where medical checks are made. lastly, where the addicted can het help.

The trade in illegal fags is mostly around imports that haven't paid duty. Many people try to smuggle duty free fags in. Of course there are 'fake' fags around too and they can kill.

The thing about legalising is we can control the flow. We can be sure of the quality and of course, in the beginning we can undercut the dealers to put them out of business.
At the moment we spend a fortune on fighting the drugs war and we are losing. A new approach is needed.

The big difference, to me anyway was if you got into a fight 30 years ago when/if you went down and were clearly beaten it'd stop. These days people carry on going. I've copped a few slaps from stopping someone going too far. usually in drunken pub fights, all too often my friends.
I never saw the point in fighting, specially over a spilt pint or football. If you're going to fight it should be over something important.

I can though, what you are missing hmrc is that London is much more densely populated, many more people used crowded public transport. There was (and still is) much more chance of London having more cases. That's before you talk the numbers, London has what, 3 timea the population of Wales so even if the demographics were identical London would be having more cases.
Then we can get onto the biology/genetics of it. London has a much larger ethnic population, it's much more diverse and those ethnic groups are largely much more likely to catch and spread the virus, much more likely to die of it too.

For those reasons it's very hard to compare the UK with other countries. I guess the only figure that'll really matter to most of us in the end is death rates. Until a vaccine is found nothing much will change.

I always thought Dr Winston a very good poster, pretty fair minded and not prone to use abuse like certain others.
It's be odd if they were banning people for nothing, when they were all on this site it took a lot to get banned.
I didn't see what Darran posted on here to get banned for but he has boasted on the other site that he'd just use one of his other 3 usernames.
Someone did post on here we shouldn't say things about the other boards users behind their backs but a quick look over there reveals that they are doing exactly that about people who stayed here.

It's not that safe in any large town or city. Swansea has been inflltrated by drugs gangs from London, Manchester, Liverpool and other places probably, the so called county lines gangs. With them comes more violence.
Until the police actually clamp down and any offender who has sold drugs and /or used violence gets a long sentence the streets will get worse.

To me the best way would be to legalise drugs and take the profit away from criminals. Without money they can't buy more weapons. Ro me, seeing known drug dealers rolling in money is just sick, even worse they go after kids, they give Primary school kids freebies to get them hooked. Hang them I say!

I've seen that Ebo posted a group from here refused to move over there. It wasn't that I refused just that the place looked boring to me! I'm sure they'll be saying the same over there.
To be fair both sites are quite quiet, because we got split in two.

I believe they are called support and they enforce their rules as they see fit. If that's childish then complain but personally I much prefer it with less abuse being flung around and lets face it, several people accused Darran of, shall we call them unhelpful shenanigans! Even ECB.
