Swans and McBurnie link : LATEST There is no race for his signature
Monday, 28th Jul 2025 12:54 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

Much has been made of the Swans needing some extra support up front from the many chances that go unconverted as we have seen this summer during friendlies. It isn’t an issue to be overly concerned about is our feedback today, so what about Oli McBurnie ?

To date the free agent hasn’t been able to find a club which has increasingly caused speculation on his availability to Swansea City. A paywall account in the name of Reluctant Nicko run by Alan Nixon of the Sun (you have to subscribe and pay for extra news) has indicated that Swansea City are in for McBurnie and there’s some form of race. Wales On Line have reported this as well, so make your own minds up when you have finished reading this report.

The Swans as we reported below have an interest in Oli McBurnie, as Richard Montague has stated he is on a long list of certain players, he left that open by not committing either way.

That’s here —> Oli with links

Money has always been the issue with McBurnie, his demands don’t match what the Swans would consider to be a value they could offer a contract for. Hull City could well have got to him had it not been for their transfer embargo, that is definitely not on the cards. They were told by the EFL that at no point should they be paying what Oli wanted. That’s off the agenda for sure. There has been other interest as you can imagine but no club at this moment in time will go to the salary and signing on fee requested. Speculation has been that a million pounds would secure him along with around twenty thousand pounds a week. That’s eighty grand a month and over a three year contract an overall salary of around three million pounds.

We believe these figures albeit potentially negotiable don’t fit the Swans remit for a player who turns thirty next June and a contract of that sort of length. To date there have been no official discussions with Oli or his agency at CAA Stellar. The Swans have their own contacts within that agency. The situation is pretty much as it was before and nothing has changed. We have been told that unless there is some real meeting of minds that Oli McBurnie joining Swansea is not going to happen. We realise that things are so fluid in this part of the transfer window anything can happen, but we must stipulate the Swans position is the same as it ever was. There have been no official talks, there is no race because Swansea City and Oli McBurnie aren’t even at the starting post.

His alleged sighting in Swansea may or not be correct, but you would assume people would be approaching him for a photograph etc, Oli has friends in the city though. We’ve also been told he is at Fairwood this morning via a few Twitter contacts, but that’s falling down with what we know. Plus, we see no validity in him visiting without any contact being confirmed for at least a transfer. Unless again he’s just dropping in ? We are pretty certain Alan Sheehan would have something to say if he did that with little credibility as to him joining Swansea. Not sure if anyone bar maybe Liam Cullen knows him.

However, latest news on Oli is he has a plethora of offers, not just a few, and the Swans maintain an interest. And he is cleverly keeping his powder dry. This isn’t a race the Swans are in …

Of course those that want him at Swansea at this moment in time will be disappointed, but breaking the bank isn’t on the agenda, much the same as it was with Harry Darling and Lewis O’Brien. This isn’t a profit and sustainability issue it’s just pure common sense. If we get any more information we will of course keep you informed on the Indy. However, this as is very situation is very fluid.

See some of our recent transfer links which have also come to nothing or news that came to fruition despite creditable accounts stating they are fact.

⚽️ Marc Guiu

⚽️ Josh Key leaving ?

⚽️ Ethan Galbraith pre signing news

⚽️ Lewis O’Brien far too costly

This was a belter. Really decent accounts stated it was almost done.

⚽️ Kanichowsky pure nonsense

⚽️ Modrić exclusive

We admit in early June our info on Ethan Galbraith was a step behind, you can’t be right all the time but we made up for that with the link above. Some possibly now hoping this Oli news is in the same bracket ? There’s no more free radical than folk remember.

Here’s new Bolton signing Erhahon
⚽️ Ethan Erhahon from May !

These are just a few examples, many other exist.

It’s a generally difficult time to confirm and deny these things, we utilise our agent network, knowledgable journalists who don’t repeat paywall accounts as news on social media, all across Europe (trust us agents know almost everything) This is done for free with a sight on not bringing any disrepute on our charity partner. So we do validate continuously. There’s always people looking for a slip or anonymously berating our outlet. For us and for many of you of course that very much tells us more about them than us.

Thanks for your continued support, context is key when reporting content, we hope yiu have enjoyed this summer to date with us.
