Swansea City have been dealt with an early transfer window blow. As we reported exclusively yesterday morning (11:46am) Swans midfielder Gonçalo Franco was sighted in Sancta Maria hospital in Swansea in a medical boot with crutches.

We again revealed later in the day that Franco had a concerning lower leg injury. Of course there is now a clamour for a replacement, but that will take a bit of time. The club have not reported anything as of 11pm last night so the extent of the injury isn’t known, but we understand it is a bad one. We can only hope it isn’t a lengthy lay off.

There are now calls for a big push on Trey Nyoni (below) who we first reported on three weeks ago as of interest to Vitor Matos along with several other Liverpool youngsters. Currently the Swans believe they are in first place to get their man. He was never going to be at Swansea quickly this summer as we reported below, new manager Iraola wants a good look at him. Currently we hear he is 50/50 to travel with the Liverpool squad to the USA shortly.

Long term readers of these pages will appreciate the picture that is built up on this site regards transfer whispers after we delve as deep as we can to find the facts. Nothing happens overnight, which riles the demands of certain social media accounts. But all publicity is good and we rely on our regular readers (there are literally thousands of you out there) to determine for themselves where we are going when transfer links and indeed general reports are published.

And on that point the Swans are continuing their interest in Manchester City defender, Stephen Mfuni (below). The eighteen year old U21 defender (left sided and centre back) was blocked from moving to the Swans last summer, Ipswich also suffered the same fate.The reasons are suspected to be surrounding his game time in a Swans shirt. As proven those concerns were correct. Ishé Samuels-Smith found himself on loan instead from Chelsea and hardly had the time he would have expected with just a handful of Swansea appearances.

After Mfuni’s move was blocked he found himself on loan at Watford where he was getting plaudits over some of the performances he put in. He actually played in the Swans defeat of the Hornets in January this year at Vicarage Road. The 2-0 away win for the Swans saw Marko Stamenić play one of his best games for the Swans. Mfuni made his debut in that game. Unfortunately for the youngster, then seventeen he had a pretty bad injury at Stoke City (of all places) which required immediate corrective surgery. That was in March of this year and our information is he hasn’t returned to full training as yet.

The expectation is a number of clubs including a very keen Derby County will be pushing for a loan move within the next few weeks. Other clubs will also be monitoring this but it is most certain a Championship club will get the defender on loan once he is medically fit for a transfer. Swansea City have Mfuni along with several other left sided targets but this player is the only one we can get information on.
