If both Fer and Vargas had stayed fit, we would have survived,but to be honest, we are better off being relegated, we need a season of building, I don't think we could have done that in the prem.
I have a good feeling about the coming season, let's just hope we have learnt from the last four seasons.

More a case of being from the wrong continent than being a bad egg.
I do not think he was abad egg - I think he got pi**ed off not being played in his correct position or not being played at all. It was clear that he was better than others who were playing regularly and quite frankly I do not blame him. He should have started in most games and he got frustrated.

‘Poor attitude in training’. Not everyone ‘trains’ the same way. You get those that spend the session listening to the Managers every word, doing exactly what they’re told and striving to improve. That’s admirable and should be commended. You need players like that. But there are personalities that are different, people that you have to spend time with, tap into what makes them tick — a one size fits all approach is not always the best method. Focussing on what someone brings to the table as opposed to what they don’t was Warnock’s approach to Adel, and I think it was the right one, although I agree Adel ended up going too far the other way.
It’s worrying though that a large number of our overseas players have been cited as bag eggs by Ramsey, while players like Shaun Wright Phillips have been rewarded for their loyalty to the coach by getting some game time. Due to the way Vargas’s time with us finished (injured) not much was said about Ramsey’s use of him and Harry before that.
Every time Vargas played for us (even when out of position), I thought he was more than good enough. I think it’s a shame that someone with that talent was ignored, especially in some of the games where we came up against immobile lumps at centre back that wanted an aerial battle as opposed to movement and speed. What they got was what they wanted (Zamora), what they should have got was Vargas

My over riding memory of Vargas is the Man utd game, ran clean through on goal but opted to stop and waited until someone tackled him. I thought he did quite well on the right for us but on the very few occasions he played through the middle he looked out of his depth. He's been poor at club level for years now.
Vargas is excellent at international level playing in a real high tempo team with world class players around him. We had no one like Sanchez or Vidal to pick out those kind of runs sadly.

Simple fact of the matter is that everyone got a clean slate on the proviso they worked their nuts off. Vargas, amongst others, trained like a c@nt and so was left out of consideration. He swiftly bucked his ideas up, worked his bollocks off to get back into the team where he - in true QPR style - got a nasty injury.

Having destroyed the confidence of Matt Phillips, Redknapp was left with the options of Isla, SWP or Vargas on the right of midfield. Isla was needed at right back because we'd sold our only actual right back before the season started.
I really think that given 8 games in the team up front with Austin, Vargas would've got going and maybe prevented relegation.
What a dreadful man Redknapp is.

Strange that you remember that one missed chance against Man U when you think of Vargas. I see that sublime goal away at West Brom and think what could have been. Or the excellent interplay he did with Isla or the immediate impact he had from the bench against Liverpool where his 2 goals should have got us something. But yes, he missed a one-on-one against Man U so must be overrated and not up to much.
He played twice up front I think? When the balls flying to your head whilst you’re up top it’s a bit difficult to have a positive impact on the game. Away at Everton I actually think he started the game well and looked like he could be useful on his own up front, but we soon reverted to type and offered him no support. But yes, let’s use that game as evidence that he can’t play up front. Two games in your favoured position and we’ll give you a Yes or No. Pleased we didn’t take that view with Phillips or Fer.
Had we played to his strengths a bit more and managed him better he would have had a positive impact on both our style of play and results. I find it strange people generally write off the misuse of Vargas as him either being a poor trainer or just not a very good player. We were sh*t and slow last season, yet for some fans were good enough to leave out a fast, Chilean international. Only at Rangers.

The weird thing about Vargas supposedly not training hard is he always looked like he was trying harder than everyone else when on the pitch, even shunted out on the right in an unnatural position. He and Austin up front together probably would have kept us up, in all truth. Another Redknapp masterstroke.

I never said he was over rated just that was one my memory of him.Lots of promise but never really delivered much. Those goals he scored were great and all done whilst playing on the wing as well.
We didn't play a style that would have seen him flourish in the middle, we were direct playing off a target man with Austin feeling off the scraps. That style never suited him and was never going to get the best out of him which made signing him in the first place a bit daft but as we had him the only place in the team where he could find space was out wide.

Dave Mc did a piece about it that is less barbed than Jamie's view. Simply, a lot of players, especially from overseas, don't put their all into training because they believe they need to save energy for games. Doesn't mean they don't care, doesn't mean they're bad trainers. They're just different. Not all players are the same. As you say, in matches, there's absolutely no doubting his commitment.

I think you need to look up the word fact. It doesn't mean claim despite evidence.
