Not that I'm angrily obsessed by the media's Hughes love-in or anything (like many on here)...but this from the BBC website made me smile:

Did keeping Southampton up mask Hughes' indifferent record?
Mark Hughes ensured Southampton stayed in the Premier League last season, but his record since taking charge at St Mary's makes for grim reading.

Since his appointment in March, the Saints have lost nine of their 16 Premier League games - only Newcastle have been beaten more times (10).

In fact, Southampton are second bottom of the table if you look at all the results since he took over - his side have taken just 13 points from his 16 games at the helm - only Huddersfield have claimed fewer points (9).

The article mentions keeping Southampton up but It wasn't anything to be proud of, not as if it was any sort of Roy Hodgson at Fulham type great escape he performed there. They just happened to be a bit less shit than the bottom three, 8 points from 8 games they got after he took over. They only eventually stayed up because they won a virtual winner takes all terrible match against a fcking woeful Swansea.

AON, that game is responsible for one of my favourite things in recent years - the little Swansea fan going "oh well" when they conceded.

My cricket team had a rough season this year, and this became a meme amongst us in each terrible loss "Oh well!"

Get the impression from earlier Charlie interviews that their relationship is not great. Charlie is obviously a good judge of character.
