There would be an outrage.

Caroline Lucas head of the green part has called for an all female cabinet to fight a no deal Brexit, she has even invited Nicola sturgeon who doesn’t even sit in the commons . I’m offended and outraged!!

"We need an “emergency cabinet” — not to fight a Brexit war but to work for reconciliation. And I believe this should be a cabinet of women.

Why women? Because I believe women have shown they can bring a different perspective to crises, are able to reach out to those they disagree with and cooperate to find solutions. "

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Theresa May - a woman (as far as I know) - the Prime Minister who only very recently spectacularly failed to achieve an agreement with the EU over Brexit that any MP (apart from a tiny minority) would vote for ?

Theresa May struck a tremendous blow for women's rights by demonstrating women can be as incompetent as men.

She's not calling for an all-female cabinet because she seriously believes it is going to happen or should happen. She's doing it to make a point about how overwhelmingly male British politics is and has always been.

And the opposite point doesn't work, because for hundreds of years we did have all-male cabinets. No one had to call for them. They just happened. Because men assumed women couldn't do anything. And lots of them still do. Even by last April, according to the House of Commons library, there had only been 45 female cabinet ministers in the entirety of British history. Given that the usual size of the cabinet is 22 people, you could have decades upon decades of all-female cabinets and still never get near the number of male cabinet ministers who have sat over the years.

Don't worry, the BBC and practically every living breathing celebrity on the TV more than balances that out.

Incidentally, is there a single comedian allowed on TV who isn't left wing these days?
I Think Geoff Norcott is given fleeting appearances on the very occasional show but struggling to think of anyone else.

On comedians you are correct, most are indeed left-wing. This is true as Geoff Norcott is the only openly right-wing one I can think of. And credit to him for being true to himself and creating comedy in the process. I think most times he manages to do it without resorting to the lameness that we would usually expect from scum like Manning, Davis and Brown. Which shows it can be done and how bad these people were/are.

However, research on the BBC shows us that is it a right-wing organisation.
"Rather than having a leftwing bias, research actually suggests the BBC's output is biased towards establishment and rightwing sources."

Full article here by bias left-winger of course: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/mar/17/bbc-leftwing-bias-non-exis

And the article goes on to state: "For too long, the right has got away with weaving a fairytale of BBC leftwing bias."

The BBC just proves that state-owned (as it is not even really state-run/controlled) can be better than privatisation (5000 streaming services anyone?). Which is the real reason the right need to control it with propaganda that it is left-wing. But to prove it beyond doubt. ask most left-wingers if they think the BBC is left-wing and most don't. So, not even the left think it's with them.

So, I am afraid the lame attack on the BBC is just that, lame. As I, and many others on the left count it as a right-wing organisation despite being state-owned.

Looking at the papers, one would really only say the Mirror is still left-wing as it supports the rights of working-class people. The rest are right-wing with the Guardian being the worst, they are after a capitalist Europe, but still fully capitalist of course. They through gritted teeth give Owen Jones a column, they would much prefer to push that tory Blairite Polly Toynbee and do so, whenever they can.

No one on the left really thinks the Guardian is with them and many now say "I told you so" to oter left-wingers. The Guardian has been fully exposed now as being right-wing. I stand by my statement that 95% of the national press and media is right-wing.

And if anyone on the right complains about too much left-wing bias and coverage, well "Ah, diddums!", right wingers, “snowflakes” the lot of'em :p

I think this is possibly the first time she has said something I don't agree with. An all-woman team hampers rather than helps diversity.

Here is a link to what she wrote. I think she is seeing the women only approach as a radical way of potentially finding a different perspective and one which might finally bring a desperately needed breakthrough.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/aug/11/cabinet-women-no-deal-brex

A couple of quotes in there to ponder:
"We need an “emergency cabinet” — not to fight a Brexit war but to work for reconciliation".

"Intractable problems have found the beginning of resolution thanks to the leadership of women".

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

I'm not her. I'm not defending her list of women. I'm only addressing the confected outrage about her suggesting it.

As I understand it, though, she's written to 10 women. So there would be 12 other jobs. And she's unlikely to be writing to the existing cabinet or shadow cabinet members, since they're tied to their official party lines.

It's quite telling that Yvette Cooper and Emily Thornberry were approached but not the Shadow Home Secretary.

The idea that there could be a government of national unity comprising solely white remain voters is a joke. And I say that as a white remain voter.

Yeah, fair enough. Don't personally have an issue with the gender aspect of it, more the total lack of ethnic diversity and the fact that list covers an incredibly narrow political spectrum.

Last say on the matter, but I hope this demonstrates the difference between Liberalism and Socialism which often look one and the same to people on the right.

Socialists wouldn’t touch this shit with a barge pole.

Sorry that was unfair. I guess I just find that the Greens, and society more broadly tend to focus in on White Feminism, which is broadly boiled down to "how much do middle class white women earn?" rather than the structural intersections of race, gender and class that stagnate society so much.

To draw together a fantasy cabinet about representation and then have only white people, and one working class person shows a distinct lack of thought

For a while today i thought she'd been misquoted, but having heard the interview, plus the latter 'climb down' when she realised 'her' cabinet were all white, was quite funny.

She was of the impression that no woman in office would go to war, but rather chat it out amongst the sides...... this got mown down quite quickly too by the mention of Thatcher, Ghandi etc.

My god, (whatever colour, gender or creed or persuasion etc you are) please prevent feckwits like this from breeding.

Some fair points here.

I don't think most people, women included, seriously want all-women government. However, I do think she has a point in maybe trying a more collaborative approach which is more often viewed as a traditionally female characteristic than male; but of course it's not exclusive to women, any more than adversarial approaches are exclusively male. Which is why citing Teresa May or Margaret Thatcher as examples of women leading government don't hold water as female-friendly styles of leadership as neither of them showed a collaborative approach; indeed both were well known for not liking any dissenting views.

What I can't stand is the fact that no one in UK politics ever had the slightest intention of giving credit to the 'other side' for any good ideas, or even listening to what they have to say. How can that ever produce the best results? Teresa May was notoriously cloth eared, which is why she kept going to parliament with a redundant deal, and expected to get it through.

But if the women we have as our potential leaders are Pritti Patel, Nadine Dorries and Ann Widdecombe, I'd rather not bother thanks. Equally, you can stuff notorious failures like Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbin and Michael Gove too.

And women are also mothers, daughters, sisters and wives. They don't want to see male depression, suicide, knife-crime or ill-health either. I don't think we can blame women for a lack of emphasis on this. It's more a high Tory, lock em up, man-up, therapy is for wimps kind of attitude that takes resources away from solving root causes to throwing money at situations after they have gone tits up.

If this becomes an option he would do it as long as there is an election after an outcome of a deal or a 2nd ref result.

As long as he gets his election and soon, then he will be willing to work with whoever. We can see this as the olive branch has been extended to the SNP. The SNP think they will win a 2nd ref, but if there is a remain 2nd vote or a deal, then the anger by the Scots for Brexit will be quelled and actually back on the SNP. This would have to happen for a 2nd ref to happen and I suspect they would lose this if facing a Labour UK govt. I cannot see how the SNP can win now, yet they think just because of one poll they can.

Corbyn's objective is an election. Every right-winger except for one thinks he cannot win (Gove has always said do not underestimate him). Yet they thought that last time and it is clear if it was not for the Blairites like Chuka he would have. Their divisive pro-capitalist ways pulled the party down the polls. Now you may say that may happen again, but a lot of those have left and been replaced by left-wing MP allies. Not all, but a lot.

Then you may say Corbyn is down personally in the polls, but he was last time so, in spite of it all Labour still gained seats. Where will they get them from? The SNP is where the big surprise will be. They will take them from them and the SNP's agenda will be wholly smashed for many years to come. it will not be enough though, Labour will not get a majority, but will be the largest party. Then what will happen will be anybodies guess!

There will be an election immediately after an interim government secures an extension . If an interim government cannot be formed then Boris will call an election for November . Brexit will be done with or without a deal ,the Brexit Party will be irrelevant and die .To be the largest part Labour has to win the middle IMO he is miles off .Ditch him and they have a outside chance ..IMO

The way i see it as well as many others. There will be a VONC as soon as they retake thier seats, Boris will lose, but by only a small majority, thus allowing him time to prorogue parliment or continue as PM for approx 2 weeks then calling a GE for the 1st thursday of November.

Get the bubbly in the fridge.
