Good summing up of how we tend to be, 3 excellent results in control of the games and then turn up at the bottom club and offer a gift of 3 points. I had a strong feeling that this game would have a defeat written all over it, especially when saw Wallace on the team sheet. He and Manning just does not work on the left, they don't communicate and Wallace I feel stifles Manning who has been mighty impressive this season at left back. To be honest to have 5 away wins in the bag by the the halfway point in the season is pretty damn impressive taking into account recent seasons woeful away form. Big game at home next Saturday let's see how the team responds, hope we can make it a good turn out for a derby match.

The formation was right and he has to use the squad . Wallace is no doubt a decent player but he seems to make Bob Malcolm look like Usain Bolt.

Never knowingly right.

At any level of football, if you start a game half-paced it becomes very difficult to change that during the match. Against any opposing team, particularly in our division, the minimum you must do is to match the opposition's work rate. We never got close to doing that for the majority of the game from what I could see. The game reminded me of an old fashioned cup tie where a top division side is playing and losing against a lower level opponent. On an individual basis our players looked better, but Barnsley worked so much harder than we did collectively. To such an extent that a lot of our players just didn't fançy it at all.

clive, totally agree on Wallace and a back 5 in general... and the stats don't lie

it also seems that playing with three CBs encourages a bit more risk taking and less positional discipline from our defenders b/c they think they have an extra man behind them to clean up their mess... and we don't have the defensive organization to pull this off effectively

going back to the fulham match, on their first goal, manning was too aggressive in trying to tackle and let the fulham player get behind him to play a cross. throughout that match, leistner and hall were getting sucked into midfield battles and leaving space behind them.

I would rather just play a back 4 with a holding midfielder. manning/kane will play with a bit more caution and ball/Cameron can do the dirty work at the base of midfield. if the centrebacks get drawn out, ball/Cameron can just drop into that space...

separately, I'm amazed how you can churn out a report like this in so little time...

Brilliant.

Not sure how you do it.

Lowest ranking points of the season for Manning 4 and like myself and Brian suggested its time to rest him .Not only playing every minute so far but switching positions have burned him out and his tackles are late and overall play sloppy due to fatigue .
Lets flash back to last year when SM burned all his starters out and we got on the downhill train fast. This team will NOT implode of course but with games coming thick and fast switching it up cant hurt .

Great report as ever, personally loved the line...Ancient Chinese proverb states, team/player on bad run looks for QPR in fixture list.

Clive

that sounded genuinely painful and you are a better man than I to be able to put it into words without many profanities.

Excellent report but it IS a bit of a myth that this inconsistency is just a QPR thing.

Outside of the top 2, only 3 of the remaining 22 teams are unbeaten in last 6 games.

Just watched the 90' and its not often, despite what some think, that I disagree with Clive's take on the referees but although he is far from my favourite referee Mr S didn't get much wrong here.

Reading Clive's comments I was expecting his usual horror show but he actually had a good game and all the yellows were spot on.

Game was totally out of control by the end and four minutes of added time for everything that went on was a joke.

Didn't look that way to me.

It was debateable, but that is all, whether the foul on the Barnsley captain was one or not.

After its not given he not only grabs the ball but then throws it away - obviously a caution and fk to us after you have decided that's not a foul on him.

Then Wells and one of their players start having a set to - not sure how any of that is his fault.

Hall's yellow was just him acting like a big kid because we lost - nothing to do with the ref.

There were only 3 subs, no physios, so 2 1/2 mins is a lot to add on for 'other' as we've seen in the Championship.

Bit of a bug bear this 'ref losing it' claim when its the players.

On Sunday I had two players in front of me start trading pinches - ref is 50 yards up the pitch facing the other way. Some bright spark shouts 'You have to get hold of this game ref' What?! After a brief chat with me ref administers 2 red cards and on we go - hardly our fault if two players square up is it?

Same here - if 20 players want to start pushing and shoving for no reason at all, don't see how its Mr S's fault.

Trading pinches? Was it the crabs under 21 league division two?

I didnt watch the game in fairness, but from looking at the lineup and seeing some of the reports - what the bloody hell were we playing at?

We won the last 2 games, with clean sheets. These were our first clean sheets in 23 games, with a new look shape and a confident back 4 - yet we were still scoring goals so we had the best of both worlds.

Why then change the the shape and back 4/5 ffs, just when we got it right? Utter madness.

Then Samuel impresses the last 2 games, scores one of the best goals in recent history for us yet is moved centrally?

I dont mind losing, but it infuriates me when we have made unnecessary changes like above. 3 points absolutely thrown away

What about his use of a team’s advantage? In the first half he let play continue after a Barnsley player was fouled, until they kicked it out of play.Fair enough if it’s consitent, but bos was heading into the penalty area with the ball after one of our players was fouled, and he blew the whistle for a free kick.
A handball was given against one of our players, but 2 mins later a ball was brought down by the upper arm of a Barnsley player right in front of him and he allowed it to continue.

The man is a joke of a ref,who has been downgraded for mistakes made in games, and in my opinion,he should be demoted again until he can show consistent decisions during the games he is supposed to be in charge of.

Think we're going to have to file this under 'agree to disagree'

The BOS one - he didn't actually have the ball when he blew and there was a Barnsley player covering.

Not everytime the ball hits hand/arm is handball - especially not now IFAB have made the handball law stupidly complicated.

As I said above he is not my favourite referee and has had some poor games that I've seen, but IMHO he was fine here.
