Where did you used to buy your gear??? 20:04 - Dec 19 with 4283 viewsenfieldargh

My mum always bought my clothes until I watched Adam Faith in Budgie. Then I started to have my say

I noticed the jacket in a shop called Gladstones in Willesden High Road on the corner of Churchmead Road which was on the 52 bus route from my home in Kingsbury to my dads place in Portobello .

I saved up and got off the bus en route and bought the lovely thing.

The shop then became my go to place for my clothes. South Sea Bubble loons, suede trousers, velvet trousers and shirts with large tear drop collars with daft patterns on them. I had a Goucho Marx one...loved it.

Boots & shoes from Shellys in Oxford street.

I was never into Ben Sherman shirts, sta pressed jeans, doc martins as I never felt I would be able to live up to the image.

At 17 I went to work in Jean Junction Oxford Street, everything 40% off, so Gladstones lost me as a customer.

dont know when it closed its doors. Any one on here go there?

captains fantastic

Used to get my brogues & gibsons in Blackmans , Brick Lane, the first shop to sell Dr Martens back in the day. There was an opticians next door where a midget would sit in the window, cleaning & fixing lenses into frames.

I went to buy a pair of dog tooth Farahs somewhere in Greenford, and when trying them on the smarmy shop assistant encouraged me to relax, take my time and live a little. It's a pair of trousers mate.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Shoes from Shelleys carnaby street and Oxford Street. Clothes from carnaby cavern, merc, sherry’s and the face. Lots of other smaller shops in and around carnaby Street. Also used to hit the charity shops hard for genuine 60’s suits - best find was a Pierre Cardin blue silk and mohair 2 piece suit. There was also a great army surplus store in Willesden Green that sold a good range of trench coats and parkas ( the latter wasn’t my thing, asi didn’t see the need if you didn’t hav a scooter).

Also used to go to the Oxford Clothing Company in Ruislip. Great shop with fantastic range of suits and ties.

Never knowingly understood

I remember Philip Grants in King Street Hammersmith ,they used to have two pairs of Levi's hanging outside one would have fitted Neil Shipperley and the other could have fitted a toddler .

Great thread, you won't be able to relate to the shops I got my clothes from as they were Liverpool shops from early to mid 80s but it was the casuals era and some of you will be able to relate to the era of adidas classic trainers, La Coste & Sergio Tacchini tees, Fila tracksuit top (the original i.e. classic borg type), Kappa and the really expensive Australian L'Alpina (kangaroo logo), pringle & lyle & scott jumpers all worn with jeans, cords, farah. At the centre of this was the shop Wade Smith which has been immortalised close to where the original shop was https://www.paulcurtisartwork.com/wade-smith-transalpino-mural and on tee shirts https://transalpino.co.uk/product/transalpino-blue-monday-navy/

I tend to get my clothes nowadays from Fred Perry, Vivienne Westwood, 80s casuals https://www.80scasuals.co.uk/ , Pretty Green, Carhartt and Transalpino for The Warriors and Quadropenia tribute tees
