Since we have a thread on non-football teams, why not one on non-football grounds.

The only real grounds in the UK I have been to are the two Headingley grounds - cricket and RL/RU - both very good.

The mention of old Fenway where I saw the Evil Empire lose in '13 is one got me thinking and certainly there are a number of old MLB grounds. Wrigley is my favourite. Of minor league grounds, Durham Athletic Park, the ground at Pittsfield, MA, the old War Memorial Ground in Greensboro, NC and Yale Field, CN.

But watching the cricket on the hill at the SCG - now that was the best. Also in Sydney, the old North Sydney Oval (concrete park) with its iconic fig tree although they did, amongst a slew of sports, play football there. Mind you they also played Rockley (a version of women's cricket) between the 1890s and 1910.

Croke Park, the Mecca of GAA.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh, where we sported and played.

I was at the old Pairc Ui Chaoimh only once. Though it had a capacity of 50,000, and probably about 80,000 people in it that day, it only had about 4 toilets. Understandably with a fairly late start, the amber nectar was everywhere, worse than old Wembley. Was that considered in the rebuild?

There's a great sporting grounds urinal thread here.

1) Agen Rugby - a low concrete wall that ran behind the main stand, so you could have a wazz, smoke a fag and keep up a conversation with a friend across the wall. People still used the hedges anyway.

2) Headingley - the old stand that was the divider between the cricket and rugby ground had a long gents room underneath it. A single trench snaked nearly the length of the field. It must have been about three feet deep at the far end.

3) Craven Cottage - the whole away end was served by a World War 2 pillbox that must have lost its roof on VE night. Soaked above and below.

4) Knowsley Road - a scabby piece of corroded corrugated iron with a shallow depression in front of it, open to the elements. Overheard, "Do I p*ss on the fence or straight on the floor?"

5) Tokyo Dome - a genuine oddity, the only sports ground I have visited with three or four times more female capacity than male. You walk for ages then join a long line of purple-faced distressed looking men, while the women stroll past happily.

I love the the toilets at Lords. Legit feels like stepping into a time warp, in a good way

And yeah astonished by the love for Twickenham. It's an enormous pain to get to, worse to get back from, can't get a drink without sacrificing 20 minutes of play, and I've been to funerals with better atmosphere.

The Millennium however, bloody hell. City centre location just adds to it.

Murrayfield is the coldest place on Earth.

I miss the old Lansdowne Road. New one is impressive, but too many day trippers and corporates there for a piss up. Old one always had a guaranteed atmosphere cos people had to get there 3 hours before hand for a spot on the terrace.

Stade de France is a bit rubbish *but* it is astonishingly easy to get to and from, and I rate that

Stadio Olynpico remains on the bucket list

I can imagine Murrayfield is the coldest place on earth, but the coldest I've ever been is at Twickenham. The wind howling around those open concrete galleries high up, bleak doesn't begin to describe it.

used to watched stock car racing and banger racing at white city stadium.
the smell of diesel and burning engines was something else.
great fun, and you could still get the old hot dog and oinions, added to the smell.

Poll: how many games this season....home/away.

Man, the old Páirc was a dump!

I've been in the new one a lot but so far always in the same stand. Pleased to announce that there were no toilet issues. We've gone very upmarket!

Always a big ol' queue for the jacks at GAA games and rarely enough jacks to fit the demand.

Fitzgerald Stadium is like Glastonbury with it's banks of portaloos which, considering games there are always preceded by a few pints of creamy porter in Murphy's and a few for good measure in Jimmy's, is a cruel and unusual punishment.

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."

I knew you would come through to lift our spirits Brian and sure enough here it is.Sitting in Croke Park on All Ireland hurling final day with blue skies and warm sunshine (just added that no hope of course probably pi**ing down rain )is one of lifes great pleasure .I wish everybody on LFT could get there one time just to experience it.
I went to old Wembley in 86 with my 2 brothers and still savor that memory despite the miserable performance and result so that is up there .
